Windows Messenger... why won't you DIE?!
#1
My work system is an HP with XP. Please, point and laugh at me for having an HP, I begged and pleaded for a Dell.

I have ZoneAlarm installed.

I disabled Windows Messenger manually using services.msc and I also used "Shoot the Messenger" to kill it.

However, I keep getting popups from ZoneAlarm that Messenger wants to access the Internet. This is curious to me. They were popping up every 4 minutes, and this was after I upgraded some stuff using windows update.

Any ideas?

just block it forever by checking the check box.. then it won't popup anymore..

are you sure that "messenger" is the windows messenger? maybe it's msn messenger or aol or yahoo..

It's Windows messenger. I don't have MSN installed, nor Yahoo. Plus, i've seen popups for Yahoo, ZoneAlarm will indicate it's Yahoo messenger.

you could try typing this on the cmd line:
net stop messenger

i think that's how to do it.
