Just to be clear, Brokenjaw made the call to the police, not me. I called the mother.
When I went to the police station to sign the complaint (which won't be ready until at least Saturday), I overheard the younger (24-ish) dispatcher on the phone about another kid. When she hung up, I said, "The kids in this town are trouble, huh?" Her reply? "Welcome to (my town)."
I understand the whole take down the biggest kid theory. The problem is, I don't think the other kids back down anymore, which then leads to a pile-on (dog pile on the rabbit).
I spoke to the principal this morning to alert him to any possible trouble. He has a zero tolerance for bullies...probably spurred on by the recent legislation against bullies.
As for my son learning to keep his mouth shut and his nose out of everyone else's business? No matter how many times I tell him...I think I have a better chance of meeting God.
