Whenever the terror alert gets bumped, people start to stock up on stuff. People at home depot crack up because of people bumrushing, buying flashlights, 2x4's, duct tape, whathaveyou.

I truly doubt that duct tape and lumber purchases by an handful of crackpots will offset any economic damage done by the heightened alerts. In fact one of the reasons that the OHS was so careful about raising it this time because the local governments were complaining about the costs.
