He dropped the MC when he was already considered a sell out, he felt the name change would be a fresh start, like "P Diddy" did.

A lot of people admit today that Hammer was unjustly crucified at the time but instead he broke ground for rappers. So today you can have people like missy doing gap commercials and snoop doin nokia AOL commercials. Back then it was unheard of but today its common place because of Hammer, they should all bow down to him and break him off a chunk of that dough.

Just like Rodman was considered a freak with all his tats and hair-do's now even kobe has tats.
