If the catholics can have their own seperate private schools legally under the constitution, I see no reason as to why the gays couldn't. Whether its good for them or not. It doesn't matter to me. All that matters is that they should have the right to have their own school if they wanted one.

Well, I prefer it on the top. I think I would only like to go to a school with other people that like it on top. Then there should be "missionary" schools, "doggy-style", oral.......

First of all this is a PUBLIC school not a private school, so don't argue that there are private schools for certain groups. If this was a private school it would be a non-issue. Private schools are good for book smarts but the students wind up being ridiculously unprepared to deal with the real world.

whoever mentioned about "what if they have to put down their sexual orientation" never heard of "dont ask, dont tell". you cannot discriminate against someone for employee on the basis of sexual orientation, so throw that one out the window.

so in conclusion. they're born gay, deal with it. to the gays, stop asking for special privledges if you want the same rights as everyone else.

Several short points:

-- Don't be silly; saying that ANYTHING about the reasons that some people are gay is "common sense" is sheer idiocy. Especially if research is ongoing, you can't chalk a single thing up to "common sense".

-- I was born lefty and trained to be righty from very early on, grandmother having heard some statistics about heart problems. No problems with it, but when I picked up a baseball bat and hockey stick for the first time, I held them lefty. Go figure. I swear, the other way just feels WRONG. I stand regular on a skateboard though.

-- There exist de facto all-white schools. I've got a friend who's going to some school in Vermont or something... 99% white catholic,... says she's tired of dealing with all the minorities around here Whatever, good luck to her. Says she's never gonna live in NYC again. Oh well, our loss, I suppose.

Fact - homosexuals are not as accepted as heterosexuals. When the time comes that they are on equal footing, then I'd kindly ask that they stop whining and bitching about not having rights, etc.

But, last time I took note:

- not all 50 states allow same sex marriages nor same sex parenting/adoption...

hmmm...that one example tells me that we're not exactly over the hump of "homophobia" as a society methinks.

Maybe when there's nothing to bitch about, they'll stop? Maybe when they are no longer harrassed they'll stop seeking out alternatives?

I work with gay people, I've made friends with some. I'm a Domin-irican, a minority; someone who HAS felt the sting of racism, of harrassment. Perhaps this is why I feel this way, that gays should be allowed to attend such a school.

Now, ultimately, I'm with the Ninnster when she says that its a shame it's even an issue to begin with. Because, it really is. Gay children (just like minorities) shouldn't feel harrassed in the first place.

And also, if my child were gay, I'd keep him in a "normal" school so he/she could learn to deal with the hostility at its purest form...."cafeteria/hallway ridicule".

But seriously, if I felt my child was in danger and I felt he/she needed to be transferred to a "safe for gays" school, I'd consider (as a parent) the option of sending my child to such a school.

I'm being silly? Okay. Tell me then, where does the segregation stop? Tell a native indian he shouldn't have different or "distinct" rights. Then a Quebec parasite. Now they're defined by sexual preferences, why not provinces, heritage, etc etc etc.

What's silly, is that you as a minority can think that, as you yourself pointed out, it's taken our stupid fucking society this long to even begin making the steps to NOT segregate or judge, and their response is to take measures to re-segregate themselves. IT'S IDIOTIC.

Society finally pulls it's head out of it's ass enough to embrace them, and they go out of their way to distinguish themselves and isolate themselves again. Please, please show me the logic.

I think we're looking at this school on 2 different levels, obviously.

All I'm saying is that a school like that should be ALLOWED to exist. Simple as that.

I'm not saying it should be enforced by federal or state law that all gays must attend such a school.

There should only be the option.

If you can have colleges geared toward the brown people (ding ding ding), then you should be allowed to have a learning institution that merely caters to a different particular demographic. Nothing else. It's not a place where it preaches hate or ignorance. It should just be a place where the fanooks can feel safe at all times while "gettin' their learnin' on".

But ultimately, like Ninny said and like I ULTIMATELY see it - members of the homosexual community shouldn't even feel the need for such a place but, they do.


So why not let them have it as long as its responsible about how it operates and what behavior/mentality it endorses?

- If fraternities/sororieties can legally exist, so should this school.

- If the KKK can legally exist, so should this school.

Applaud the parents who keep thier gay kids in public schools if you wish; crucify them for sending them to such a school if that tickles your fancy.

Everyone should just have the rght to choose for themselves.

You have to have choices before being able to exercise your right to choose.
