Power Outage!!!11!1!
#81
Power back after 25 hours.

Funny, everyone on my block was hanging outside and having sort of an impromptu block party....now it's a ghost town.

Sweet, we can go back to never saying anything but "Hi, how are you?" to each other. Whew.

HAHA my night was exactly the same. It was a really strange, yet interesting night. With no power everybody seemed to take the time to walk around the neighbourhood, talk to people they would normally never talk to, and through most of it everyone kept a smile on their face.

At about 10:00 when it became apparent this was going to last and most of the meat in my freezer was probably gonna go bad, I had my freind Tanya get it all out of the freezer (which at that point wasn't frozen), and I dragged the bbq to the front lawn and began cooking it up. Some people began coming by with beer and ice, hamburger buns, offering up their propane tanks if I didn't have enough... some of these people are neighbours I don't think I've ever said hello to the entire time I've lived here. So most of us made the best of it.

I'll probably never say hi to them again either.

The same kind of thing was happening all over the city. I'm really proud to be a New Yorker today, I love how we come together in times of crisis. Civilians were volunteering their time directing traffic for hours, stores gave out food before it went bad, people helped the police evacuate those trapped in the subway.

I love New York!!

Brain, Kid, comment?
Yes.

I now believe that the mere thought of being trapped 1 mile underground in a dark, dank subway tunnel with KensPen and DIG is more amusing than you. TongueTongueTongue

When the lights went out, I was on northern boulevard on long island, just starting to get on the road to go to MD, where today i had a job interview. the traffic lights went out and i almost got into about 5 accidents because idiots didn't know what to do. The cross bronx took me 3 hours, once i got into jersey traffic stopped being bad...and MD had power. Just got home about an hour ago. So yeah...the driving sucked, and thats all i did without power.

At first, I was wondering why the hell you would end up on the Cross-Bronx all the way from LI, then I remembered that they weren't letting cars into Manhattan.

So you were basically on the road for the past 31 hours? Or did you find places to stop and rest?

I live on the northernmost tip of long island., right on the border of queens..cross bronx to the GWB is actually the most direct route to jersey for me.

I got there at 10:00 last night, slept at my roomate's house after going to see 28 days later, and then made my interview today. I then putzed around college park for a few hours with friends, then drove back. Its been a long day and a half.
