New York Mets 2003 Season Thread: The Funeral Procession continues...
#11
OK Here's what I see. Alomar, gone after this year. Vaughn IS NOT coming back. Clark at first until next year and Piazza breaks Fisks' record for homers by a catcher. Floyd in left with reservations cause he has a bad heel. Timo in Center,Shinjo in right or platoon him with Timo when Burnitz comes back. TRADE FOR PITCHING. Gonzalez as a back up and Super Joe at short until Reyes is ready. Philips to the unemployment line with Benitez right behind him. And for the love of God if you can draft that Almonte kid that was in little league do it.

He will be gone before July 31. No doubt about it, and July 31 cant get here soon enough. And we all know he will go back to being the Hall of Famer he once was once he takes off the Met uniform. Sort of like Luc Robitaille.

Quote:Vaughn IS NOT coming back

Then where's he going. Do you know of somebody who will want to take his 17 million dollar a year salary off our hands for next year? because I cant think of any.

Quote:TRADE FOR PITCHING

The least of the Mets worries right now.

Quote:Super Joe at short until Reyes is ready

Probably the only option worse than leaving Sanchez at Short. When you are hitting close to .100 in the past 2 years, you no longer can be called Super.

Vaughn is going to retire and that's it. He won't get the money. Alomar gone before July 31st, maybe. I would actually be interested to see who would take him. I would take Joe over Sanchez anyday. At least Joe doesn't fuck up routine grounders.

Mets will "convince" Mo to miss the next 85 games or so. After missing 90 games his salary will be paid 75% by insurance.
Then he can retire, or be traded next year.

First move must be to dump Phillips.
Will it matter this year? probably not,
1) but fans must see team understands what a clusterfuck this year is (sorry CF), and need to see blood

2) you prevent Phillips from making (more) stupid moves to try and save his ass

3) if you appoint Jim Duquette as interim GM, you might get some clue as to whether or not he is capable

4) you give Brian Sabean, Gene Michaels, Omar Minaya, Gerry Hunsicker, and any other possible GM for next year the idea that the job is available.

SS- bring Reyes up some time around july.
The kid is already playing defense well enough, as well as stealing bases. Give him a chance to get his feet wet this year.

Stop adding the 35+yr old players. Get it into their heads that this team needs to look forward.

Tell Mikey that we still love him, he'll still get to catch 4 times a week, but we need him to try and play some 1B to ease the abuse his body takes. "convince" him, tell him, beg him - whatever - as long as it gets done. Mets will need someone to rally with if this team crashes and burns; besides, you will not be able to trade him without permission in another few days, and if you do, you will not get value.

These are but a few of the thousand things the team needs to do.

Pete, I agree with everything else you said, except that. I dont think he should be called up to this aging team and be asked to do so much that early. Id say bring him up in September, August at the earliest. Do you really want him to be surrounded by these cast of characters named Alomar, Sanchez, Cedeno, etc?

Also, Sabean is the guy i want as GM. If we can get him, i think we'll be pretty good for the future.

::barf::barf::barf:

Unbe-fuckin-lievable!! This game made me sick. This loss is more than just a dagger in the Mets heart, its a fucking sword through it. I am very scared to see what happens tomorrow, it could be a nasty sight.

The only hope I have is that the more losses, the more evident that Phillips should go NOW.

I also listen to 1050 ESPN Wally Mathews & Tom Keegan, and Keegan was saying how Howe looks so overwhelmed by NY, maybe it is time to jettison him already.

sad.

The way Howe has managed the bullpen this year, he is like the Jeff Torborg for the bullpen, wearing them down. There is no reason why, the other night, Tom Glavine couldnt've stayed in a little longer than he did, and then when he did come out, why did guys like Pat Strange, Jason Middlebrook, and Jaime Cerda come in to seal the deal, in Colorado noless? I understand bringing Strange in, it was 7-1, but after he struggled, you go to Weathers, or Stanton, someone of that caliber, not Jason Fucking Middlebrook.

Last night sucked too, but i dont even wanna go into that. At least Alomar and Piazza are on a roll.
