Anyone else getting attacked?
#1
I don't know how many of you actually have a program that detects this stuff, but I'm running Norton Internet Security 2003 and whenever an "attack" comes in, it gives me a security alert and details on the attackers IP address and location. 8 times out of 10 the description is a Backdoor Sub-Seven Trojan Horse and it's listed as high risk.

Normally I get maybe 1 or 2 a day depending on how long I'm on, but the past two days have been non stop attacks from all over the world. I'd say at least 10-20 each day. I'm thinking it may have something to do with this Blaster worm that's going around.

I'm just curious if any of you are experiencing this lately and if you know how to cut down on the frequency. I know the program is stopping them now, but how long will it be before they find a way past it and into my system.

Just out of curiosity, I looked at my ZoneAlarm status.

It said that, since it's installation, 9000 intrusions had been blocked, and 1014 of those were "high-rated".

The fact is, if you have any internet connection, other computers out there will constantly be probing IP addresses looking for open ports to get in. It's not that they're looking specifically for you, just any possibly vulnerable PC.

If anything, set your firewall setting to silently protect you, for simple peace of mind. And of course make sure the firewall and anti-virus programs are up to date.

Yeah, I know it's normal to receive these attacks, but the past two days have been way more than I normally get. I was just curious if anyone else noticed this as well.

I just checked and I can't find any option to silently monitor it. Also, I do update the security and virus program at least once a week so I'm good there.

Then you may want to download a program like SpyBot. It will check for any and all trojan software, viruses, spyware, and so on (and it's free to use). The sudden increase in attacks on your PC may in fact be internal-- a program that snuck itself in is letting the outside know to come check your PC. If this is the case, SpyBot will find it, and allow you the option to eliminate it.

Thanks Brain. I just downloaded it and ran it and it found a few things it considered to be problems.

Now I'll just have to wait and see if the constant attacks subside.

Here we go again. All of a sudden I'm getting hit every 5-10 minutes now.
Yes, I even ran SpyBot and it's coming up "clean" so there are no problems there.

Anyone else experiencing greater than normal attacks lately?

Are you running Windows XP?

If so, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and make sure you have ALL the updates installed.

Something nasty, not sure if it was the SoBig virus or the Blaster, took out all 4 of the computers here. Took me a week to clean them all up.

Yes, I am running XP and I just checked and I am completely updated security wise.

This may have been an isolated attack because now things have quieted down. I haven't seen an alert for about an hour now.
