General NHL Thread.
#1
I know there has to be other fans on here.

My Oilers aren't getting off the a great start, 1-2 with 2 straight shutout losses to Vancouver and Calgary.

Please share opinions, predictions and what not here, and please refrain from team bashing. I don't want this to turn into that Ranger thread.

you can thank GameHHH for that. Rolleyes

My boys starting off the season with an 0-2 record...not digging that. Also, not digging the fact that we've already given up 10 goals...in two (TWO!!) games...

but hey, plenty of season left....

the next 11 out 13 games will be at home for the Broadway Blueshirts, I hope they can take at least 7 out of those 11.

Right now I am just really pissed that this may be last season for the NHL, possibly forever the way some are talking.

The greed in professional sports is really pathetic in my opinion. If I had the athletic ability to make it to the pros I would gladly play any of the 4 major sports for $1 million a year, every year. No, that's not good enough for those who have tasted wealth and want more and more. Keep raising my salary because I can't possibly live on $10 million a year. Rolleyes
Deal with the salary cap and be fucking grateful you even had the chance to play (emphasis on PLAY) a game for a living.

That said, I'm a Devils fan, but I don't see them repeating this year. I'm gonna pick the Colorado Avalanche over the Ottawa Senators for the Stanley Cup.

Sad

solid prediction Flock...I'll give you Ottawa but as much as I want to pick Colorado...I need to see how thier goaltending pans out...

but ultimately, fuck Ottawa.

Rangers all the way. (of course, as a fan, I say this EVERY year...well, almost every year.)

Now, now. He asked nicely that this thread doesn't turn into that and I have to concur.

If you want a specific team bashing thread, feel free to start one.

You know, I didn't even look in the Rangers thread so I don't know what's been said there. But, the above quotes are why I'll truly never understand the mentality of some sports fans. Why is it so hard for some people to admit that their team is just not good?

I'm a fan of both the Mets and the Knicks, attend games and root them on and whatnot, but right now, both teams suck and I realize that any hope for a championship for either team anytime soon would just be delusional. I wish fans of other teams would do the same, come to grips with the suckiness while continuing to support their team(s) of choice, so that one day they may feel the pride of watching said team(s) pull themselves out of the gutter and back on the road to a championship.

With that said, as a Devils fan, I predict another Stanley Cup for the 2003-04 season. Big Grin

SO,

If you truely assessed the talent and POTENTIAL of this year's NY Rangers team, you would say that they CAN make things happen this year.

But, you are a Devils fan so of COURSE you push the agenda that I can't admit that my team is "sucky".

I am a Knicks fan..they will SUCK this year.

I am a Mets fan...they SUCKED this year and pending some miracle player signings in this off-season, odds are, they will suck AGAIN next year.

I can admit when my teams suck.

Currently, I equate the Rangers with my NY Giants...

both reeking of potential but currently UNDERACHIEVING.

The Giants, I'll agree with. They're not playing nearly as well as they should be.

But how can you compare the Rangers to them? Before the NFL season started, the Giants were expected to be a Super Bowl contender by most (and could still very well be). Before the NHL season started, anyone who suggested that the Rangers would be a contender would have been laughed at. I don't think that's changed after a week into the season.

The Giants are coming off a successful 2002 season which saw their offense become one of the best in the league. The Rangers spent last season in the cellar looking up.

The Giants are, for the most part, a well managed franchise from the top all the way down. The Rangers are run by a dipshit named Dolan.

There's really no comparison.

The Rangers are sorely lacking in goaltending, defense, and offense. Lindros is one hard check away from being a vegetable.

Please, convince me that the Rangers will amount to anything more than cellar-dwellers this season, and bring some facts to the table rather than blind faith.

Colorado's depth on defense is still suspect, and until they get a top tier goaltender...no way they are gonna get the cup...and the biggest problem of them of all is the coaching of Tony Granato. I remain unconvinced. I see an early exit amid high expectations and Granatos firing by year's end.

Anaheim will go back to being the mid-level team they were, even with good goaltending. No cup for them.

Detroit is talented, but aging. They will push for it, but lose in the end.

Dallas is the team to beat in the West, in my mind. High powered, good defense, albeit no Derian Hatcher, and Turco will have anohter full year under his belt.

On the East...

NJ stillhas not replaced a lack of offensive firepower. They can make a run, but be beat.

Ottawa, a sound and deep team with all the right stuff..except they never have money to add to it to make a true cup run. they will push, but until they spend the cash somehow for a freeagent gun, they can't get over the hump.

Toronto: made their run, and has never upgraded in the area they need. They are older, new blood is limited, and not much new. They are one of the toughest teams, but once that bite ends, they fold.

Rangers: Dolan's gang that couldn't shoot straight will either be dismantled with Sather being booted, or get their act together to make a run. They don't have enough to go that far against the deeper teams. But they certainly pay a high paycheck.

Isles: my team is in transition. Young with bite, but needs a couple of years to make a true playoff run.

Dallas vs. Ottawa is my pick, with Dallas as Stanley Cup champs with Bill Guerin as the Conn Smythe winner is my pick

rookie honors go to Staal of Carolina.
