I don't get why they changed it in the first place. They can say realignment until they're blue in the face, but that doesn't make any sense to me. It could still be done the way it was or the way I described with the way the league is now.

The way it was set up was perfect, but like every thing else the uptight, old white guys running the NFL get their hands on, they manage to fuck up. Heaven forbid someone spikes a ball in an opposing players direction. What's the matter, that player gonna get his feelings hurt and cry? It's a fucking game, let them actually PLAY.
Let's change the overtime so it's actually fair like Suzie mentioned. No, that's no good for old, uptight white NFL executive guy. Let's keep it the same old boring way. Two teams kill each other for 60 minutes, but that doesn't matter. Let whoever wins a coin toss get a huge advantage on OT to decide the game. Yup, let's keep that system. Rolleyes

That's gay .. fuck rivalries. You can't realign and expect to keep all your rivalries intact.

It should be:

(using the Falcons as an example for continuity purposes)

6 games vs. NFC South (each opponent twice)
4 games vs. opposite conference - to be rotated every year like it has been and is
2 games vs. NFC East
2 games vs. NFC North
2 games vs. NFC West

Each 1st and 2nd place team plays the corresponding 1st and 2nd place team in its conference.

In other words:

Of course, the AFC-NFC matchups are all depending on what the rotation is set for, which I'm
not sure of. Based on 2002 and this year, the above matchups are, however, a possibility.

Exactly! It's just more proof positive that old, white NFL refuses to emerge out of the Dark Ages and wants to live in the past. God, just look how long it took them to actually realign the league. Yup, Arizona in the East always made sense. Rolleyes

Anyway, I just wanted to reprint this one line from BA's article.
Quote: A team’s record from the previous year will have less of a bearing on its schedule with only two (rather than four) opponents being based on the previous year’s standing. Thus, the so-called “easy” fifth-place schedules are eliminated.

So glad they actually care about competition in the NFL.
Now, as for the "easy" fifth-place schedules comment. Umm, first off there are no fifth place teams anymore and even so if the last place teams all played each other, I wouldn't call that easy. It's not like a 1st place vs a 4th place. They both sucked the previous year so it's a pretty even matchup, just like if two 2nd place teams went at it.
