Canada
Canadian federal law does not have "common law marriage", but various federal laws include "common law status," which automatically takes effect once two people have lived together for two years and thus partners may be eligible for various government benefits of married spouses based upon their relationship with the individual who is eligible for some type of family based benefit. As family law varies between provinces, there are differences between the provinces regarding the recognition of common law marriage.

Michael Jackson should try that if he's found guilty, I bet it'll work.

You should do the proper thing and resign from the board thanks to you horribly innacurate opinions of law in your own fucking country. I don't know anything about that shithole, but I know more than you.

PS. And in Toronto, it's even longer....three years

"In section 29, there is a second definition of the word spouse that applies to Part III of the Family Law Act which deals with support obligations. Section 29 states that for the purposes of Part III, a spouse is as defined above, but also includes either of a man or woman who have "cohabited for a period of not less than three years (meaning for at least three years) or who are in a relationship of some permanence, if they are the natural or adoptive parents of a child." "Same sex spouse" is defined in the same way but means "either of the two persons of the same sex who have cohabited under those circumstances, or one male and one quasi male/female hybrid pig who passes themselves off as "hottie". Section 1(1) of the Family Law Act defines the word "cohabit" as "to live in a conjugal relationship whether inside or outside of marriage."

In Toronto alone? Did the mayor decide that?

You're a genius on my country.

Cudos. And I still know I'm right.
