Mel was a devout catholic and strayed. He got back into it some years ago and follows the same ultra conservative teachings esposused by his father. Pretty much any changes made by the Church in 1964 or 54 under Vatican 2 are not followed. They still say mass in Latin etc. The guy made the movie as a profession of his faith and to show people the story as he interpreted it, of Christ. And I still haven't seen the fuckin movie yet.
