Fuck the OA.com super vets.......
#31
not disagreeing,
my point is,
that once the newbies stopped reporting for abuse,
the core group had nothing left to talk about,
they weren't really that witty or funny.
the board died because "they" couldn't sustain it.....

all I read was whining about the good old days.

I think Uapuat or whatever the spelling is a perfect example....
I never met him, but I hear he was a dork, who became cool cause his "born on"date was early.

actually I disagree. Tooling was not isolated to newbies. That was only half the fun of tooling. Tooling on newcomers was a temporary thing. Once you were established, you were left alone. Unless you were a complete dick about it, in which case, your ass was torn apart on a daily basis. coughcoughkencoughballoonknotcough. It made things interesting.

But if you payed attention, you would have noticed that most of the tooling went amongst the "super vets" themselves. Gonzo, RedDog, Metal, Grumpy, SpitFire, Maynard, etc.. These guys spent their time tearing at each most of the time. But at the same time, they also added value to the board. Spit's creativity in finding lyrics. RedDog's neverending hunt to C-Block. Gonzo's sick perverted stories. Buttmunch's letters to mom and dad. Grumpy's........grumpy's??.....what the fuck did Grumpy add? Wink nevermind.....

My point is, you assume that all the "super vets" did was tear into people. That is where you are wrong my friend. If that's what you think, you were not reading the same board I was.

Actually, who is he referring to? Most of the folks who would qualify under the category of \"OA.com Super Vet\" don't even post here.

and THAT is why I asked because I sure as hell don't see many of the "oldbies"...well, besides you Brain and a few others.

you know what....the board WAS better back in the day. when people joined to talk about the show and not for a chance to be mentioned on the radio. i cant explain what made it better, it just was. and just about anyone i talk to who was around back then agrees.

I think Maynard was post bang. Most of the uber-super-vets might have been here for a little while or at CDiH (CBH, JMB, CGJ,...) but a lot just stopped at OA.com (IP, Dryblood,...).

I think many have a sense that there was a nice flow to the board at that time and no one knows how to recapture it...... The riddle of the Holy Grail: The show and the board are one.

Boy the way Glen Miller played,
songs that made the hit parade,
guys like us we had it made,
those were the days,
and you know where you were then,
girls were girls and men were men,
mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
didn't need no welfare states
everybody pulled his weight,
gee our old Lasalle ran great,
those were the days!

Wilbur jokes, of course. Wink

Remember too, a lot of the "newbies" were just new names created by Mavric or some other outcast who would come back just to post nonsense.

In any case, tinymike is right. Yeah, it was common to pile on the newbies, at least at first. But most of the attacks were on folks who would log on for that first time, and proceed to make five different threads about silly, non-show related stuff in General Discussion (and then when their thread was moved to an appropriate forum, would make a new thread asking why the old thread got deleted), or spam threads in OT, or hotlink sigs, or generally did shit that clearly indicated they never even glanced at the FAQ page.

I mean, it happens. You are there with your friends, in your clique (so to speak), and some new guy just pops up and immediately tries too harder to win you over. It just doesn't work like that. If more folks would think before they post, we would still be logging on to OA.com instead of here.

EDIT:

Hey don't lump me in with those guys Ken hates. I'm a post-"Bang party" member. Tongue

With the exception of Gonzo, most of these names stayed in the "Work" chat threads, or went to Fight Club.

I think Ken despises posters who go back even deeper. And if that is the case, I don't see why. We haven't even seen any of them in almost two years (I recall Crybaby Howie re-emerging very briefly, and that was it), but the names tinymike listed were pretty much among the "elite" at that time of the Board's supposed heyday.

ARGHHHH,
what does it matter?

my point was....
after the supply of meat was gone,
so to was the fun.....

I see people like Flock and FTL condemning people for their posting style, yet a core group of a couple dozen people in oa.com were unable to post stuff to keep the board interesting....
my point is NOT to condemn them, just to say that this golden age was fueled by a membership influx that will never be repeated.
