So I just bought a house. Theres lots of shit to do, I actually have a lawn I have to take care of and all the walls that I have to redo and what not. I have also accumilated a nice selection of tools. My question here is simple. Who here owns any cool power tools, and what was the most recent purchase here?

Mine are easy. I just bought everything I own. I just got a leaf blower/vaccuum, a shop vac (best tool ever, better than MikeOxBig) and a great new drill.

Congrats on the house King! The wife and I are hoping to have one by this time next year (keeping fingers crosssed).

I have recently become somewhat of a fan of Home Depot, but I haven't accumualted much in the way of power tools yet - I'm in the process of renovating/redoing the basement where I resided prior to my marriage, so I've been going in and out of there for sheetrock, paint, light bulbs, etc. I can see how some guys can spend hours just walking around, the place is immense.

Sorry to totally fuck the question that you had but.....I fucking hate Home Depot. Yes, you can get everything you want there. Yes, it's cool to walk around there and look. But I will not buy things from there anymore. The reason you ask? I am a supporter of small businesses. Whenever possible I will shop at a smaller store then a large chain type store. These warehouse stores are killing small business in America. It is hard enough for the little guy to get by and make a living, and now you have these large stores opening up and totally wiping them out.

Yes, you can get it cheaper in a large store, but have you ever asked for help at one of them? Usually they have no fucking clue. Go to a smaller store and they will usually be able to tell you everything you want to know. I think the service in smaller stores is generally better.

Actually I understand what you mean Maynerd, but I will always go for the cheaper if possible, plus they usually dont have to ever order anything, where the little stores have to order a lot.

ftard - as the newest member of the moneypit club, Home Depot is a savour. Everything I need is there. However..... I have found the ultimate in home improvement places and if you have one near you, I suggest you seek them out....

Lowe's

Bigger, cheaper and more items than Home Depot. And here's the best part. They pride themselves on customer service. I bought a ton of stuff from them and everyone I dealt with reminded me of a DisneyLand employee.
"Hi! Can I help you? Hi, my name is Sally. Is there anything I can help you with?"
And they actually know what they're talking about.

As for tools: too many to list. Stick with Dewaltz and Makita's if you can. They;re built for commercial jobs. Black and Decker and the rest of the no-name crap out there is for your weekend warrior who has no clue how to use them but wants to be able to say he has one.

My favorite has to be TARGET wet tile table saw. No, it's not made by the department store. It's a different company. That and my dewaltz sawz-all. Effin awesome.

I love the Homey Depot

I bought a chamelion screwdriver there. It sits under my sink in a tool box, and any time I need a flathead driver, it turns into a Phillips. Any time I need a Phillips, it turns into a flathead. Any time I need a hex head, it dissapears.

I love my saws-all more than life itself

I too have become one with Home Depot since becoming a home owner last year. I have wandered aimlessly the aisles...wondering what the heck I need while at the same time, wondering how I have lived so long without all the cool gizmo's and gadgets... So far I have only painted and fixed that little rubber, flappy thingy in the toilet...I'm learning...

No power tools yet...I'm too afraid to venture into that part of the store...

Hmmm, my lated Home Depot purchase....

I just bought a leaf blower/vac/mulcher (10 bags to 1). Haven't used it yet, but I can't wait for the leaves to fall!

Oh yeah, and I got a big ol' Craftsman standup tool chest for Christmas last year.

I agree with that. In many areas there HD is the only shop there. Let's face it they forced Pergament out of biz.

And does any one realize people have been killed in those wherehouses (Costco, BJ's, Sam's Clubs) due to improperly packed shelves. I heard a story of a 7 year old being crushed by a large box of tools.

Scary shit man.

Under normal circumstances, I would assume that you are talking about a sliding glass door. But, knowing you too, I'm almost scared to ask, "what's a slider?". It's undoubtedly some kind of uh geey device.

Ah! I love the Home Deeps!

The last tool I got was a Makita 12V Drill (model 6213D). I went Makita b/c the guy there said that DeWalt has gone downhill since they were bought by Black & Decker, and now Makita's the best. I usually don't have too many problems with help at HD- unless you catch the guy who's walking by and is out of his "area."
When I bought my apartment, I was there a lot- gotta love the 24 hour ones! I bought all the stuff to paint my apartment, a celing fan, some tools, and other assorted goodies. I think walking the aisles there makes you want to do things yourself. You're there and you're like that'd be so cool to have! When I finally get a house, I'll probably go nuts buying and building stuff...

Man you homeowners make me laugh!!!

Grumpy-Makita, you are joking right?? The only good thing Makita makes is the sliding compound miter box, now that MOTHER rocks.

Porter-Cable cordless drills, destroyed them in less than a year.

Porter -Cable 1/2 pad sander, Model 505, rocks.

Milwaukee 18V cordless drill, through me off a ladder, baby that thing is sweeeeeeet111.

Best tool, a wad of C4 plastic explosives, I couldn't get the nail out... :):):)

Oh, and Makita drills suck as of about 3 years ago. When they switched to the orange batteries and the plastic gears.

Maybe I got a higher end one, but mine doesn't have orange. The batteries are black & tan. And so far, it's worked fine. Then again, it's not like I'm building houses with it.
