Dan Blackburn is starting in Goal tonight against the Capitals.

Is Ron Low kidding me? Putting an 18 year old in his first NHL Game on Broadway against Jagr, Bondra and one of the best teams in the NHL.

Its the 3rd game, Richter isnt tired. This makes no sense.

Now if Blackburn goes out and plays great tonight then I will be happily wrong, but if he doesn't you cant say im second guessing this move.

I think the biggest problem is the attitude that they expect to win. Most of the time the better teams underestimate the lesser opponents and that's how they lose the game. They just don't show up cause they don't think they have to play hard. Also for some reason those less talented teams usually always seem to play better against the good teams. the Flyers underestimated the Blue Jackets and they blew it.

Anyway..back to the Rangers...yeah it does seem quite strange. But I guess there's no real test for a rookie then to go up against a powerhouse like Jagr and the Caps. I'm sure Low wouldn't put him in the game if he didn't think he was ready. I think he'll do fine. I guess we'll see in a few minutes.

well i'm sure you're wrong - no team likes to tie, and no team should be content w/ just a tie, even if it is the blue jackets against the flyers.

and since this IS the rangers chat thread, where are the comments about tonights game? what's the matter, you get your asses reamed and you don't wanna talk about it? come on ranger fans, show a little backbone, take the abuse.

whatever, Im not gonna bother with this crap anymore. You just dont get it.

And Blackburn played pretty good tonight. The Rangers main concerns are their defense and their discipline. They are taking stupid penalties. Purinton has to pick his spots. Its good every now and then to get the team riled up and start something, but this guy gets into fights and takes penalties every time he steps on the ice. And Ulanov's play at the end of the game was inexcusable. Taking a 5 minute major on a stupid retaliation cross check to the face. He will probably get suspended. That was the game right there.

Its only 3 games already, but I already am not too happy with Ulanov.

You're not the only one - Ulanov (translation: You Sit Now). Not impressed with him at all right now - not playing with his head. Maybe a benching will fix his ass. It would have been better to have Blackburn in against a 'leser' opponent. He looks good, just too many penalties made life difficult for him

Well I missed most of the game because I was watching Clemems lose it to the A's tonight but I will say from what I could tell Blackburn looked pretty damn good for an 18 year old rookie playing in his first game in the NHL. They got 5 goals against him but it was mostly due to lack of discipline of the defense. Power play goals never good. He made a really great save on Bondra in the first period (I think). But he held his own against one of the best in the East. I'm looking forward to watch his career develop.

What happened to the new emphasis on Defense?
Team Defense - I'll take anyone playing defense.
what was first period shot differential? 17-2?

I'm starting to get discouraged already. It's beginning to get where I miss Tom Laidlaw.

By the way, is it me or does it not make sense to pair two offensive defensemen (Berard & Leetch) together?

Low either really has it in for Blackburn or he really thinks a lot of him.
1st start is against high powered Capitals;
2nd start scheduled against 4-0-1 Canadians in Montreal, where Blackburn grew up. I know the Molson Center isn't The Forum, but jeez, that seems like a lot for an 18yr old's 2nd game.

Id rather his next start be tomorrow at Montreal, rather than Wednesday against the Devils.

Where did you hear that Low said that Blackburn will be playing tomorrow?

If this is true, than it doesnt look like the Rangers are too confident with Richter. Either ability or health wise.

The Rangers have back to back games next weekend in Atlanta and Tampa Bay, so you know Blackburn will be playing there.

Hopefully in Blackburn's next start the Rangers will actually give him a chance to win the game, and play a little thing called defense, and stay out of the Penalty Box.

Both yesterday's Newsday and Today's daily news had Blackburn starting, as well as NY Ranger's pre-game e-mail (game notes). It is probably more being cautious with Richter.

Yeah, I'd like to see the Rangers play defense for a change also. I didn't see much of the Ottawa game; once again they fell apart early and then tightened.

I think I read (maybe yesterday's newsday) Rangers have had lead for less than 3 minutes all season.

I know the Canadiens are 4-0-1 to start the season and are looking good, but I want a Victory Tonight. The Tie in Ottawa was fine with me, nothing short of a victory is acceptable tonight to me, and the same goes for Wednesday against the Devils.

I don't know about tonight but if the Devils keep playing the way they are even the Rangers can beat their asses.

Today was a good day for Picture-in-picture.

I watched Rangers in small box, but they looked pretty good. Blackburn gets 1st career win as Rangers win 2-1. Yeah, Canadians have played their 3rd game in 4 days, but defense has now only given up 3 goals in 2 games, a vast improvement over 1st few games - Blackburn stopped 22 of 23 tonight. JD was saying that it could have easily been 5-1, except Theodore stopped some good chances (or Rangers couldn't finish). It's only been a few games, but JD said "this kid could be as star in this league". Everyone says he has great poise for a young 18yr old.

Blackburn definitely played well and was full value for the victory.

I do wish that the Habs had some more shots against him, but except for that one that got by him he did manage to stop all their quality chances.

Montreal is on a tear as far as penalty killing goes. I think they're up to 35 straight kills and they haven't let a PP goal in all year yet (although Fleury's goal was on a delayed penalty).

Maybe the Rangers just play better with Messier?

Lindros was looking a little better than what I had seen of him earlier in the season, Fleury's coming around too, but they are definitely missing offensive punch considering what they're paying some of those guys.

Fata is also an interesting one to keep an eye on. Say what you want about Glen Sather, but he works that waiver wire like there's no tomorrow. Rico Fata is FAST and young, something the Rangers are sorely in need of!

Barrett Heisten hasn't looked bad either, or Smrek last year.

If it wasn't for the Lindros deal, I'd be perfectly happy with Sather.

Im sure you mean without Messier and the answer to that is no.

See 1997-2000.

The Rangers played well tonight. I am really liking Blackburn. Let the kid keep platooning with Richter until he starts showing some signs of weakness. Id like to see him get about 40% of the starts.

Now Wednesday. Lets Beat the Devils Please!! Its only the 6th game of the Season but to me its a HUGE Game.

I want to make the Devils 0-4 and We need to beat this team in a Meaningful Game for a Change. If we can get that win and then have winnable games in Atlanta and Tampa Bay for the weekend we can get off to a nice start which is something the Rangers have not done in their First 4 years.

The Key to making the playoffs is getting off to a good start, so when they start to crumble towards the middle of the season and go into slumps, they will have enough points in the bank to still be in competition.

Like always, but especially against Devils, they've got to start quick and get a lead, something they haven't been doing this year.

VERY important game tomorrow against the 0-3 :) Devils. That would make my day if the Rangers could defeat the Devils. Granted it is early in the year, but we need this one for a psychological boost. I say Rangers win 4-2...i wonder if Lindros is going to be on the ice the same time as that asshole Stevens. I hope someone shows Stevens what it feels like to get hit by a cheap shot.

I too like this kid blackburn. I especially liked the comments made about him during his first start that he has the ability to let one goal in and then turn the screws up and shut the door. Besides the Rangers cannot live and die with Richter in goal in every night. Did not work last year and won't work this year.
As for the devil game... Kick em while their down... HARD!

While i have to admit this is a great game right now, all i have to say is:

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Damnit why cant we beat these guys in the regular season. Ritcher gave us chances and we took advantage of them, but (of course) in the 3rd period, Brodeur looks unbelievable, and the Devils come back and tie this thing. Please Rangers, win!!!

**EDIT** GOAL! The game is over, the streak is over. Rangers win, what a game. Ritcher looked great today which we needed. Just a great overall game. Nice work by Nedved too helping out that hooking penalty :).
