Maybe I'm directing my anger at an easy target, but I don't give a shit.
Now I understand that they took the time out of their precious lives to go on TV and ask US for OUR money and they probably donated a small fraction of thier own. But do they really think that we, the American public, would not contribute as much as we possibley can without their panhandling. It makes me sick that the richest people in the world have to get together and ask OTHERS for money. Dig into your own stockpiles. I'm sure your million would be more helpful then my hundred.

Every penny helps the victims families. It's a good cause.I could give a fuck what the celebs have to say.But everyone should try to donate as much as possiable. And i'm sure the majority of celebs there have donated money to the cause.

If it helps raise even a penny, it's worth it.

What are you so bitter about. I'd be willing to bet most of them have donated money, and now they're donating their time. They're doing what they can to help based on their talents. Everyone has to do something. They're not getting paid, the networks are losing millions of dollars in advertising, and i'd imagine they're raising quite a bit of money. So why don't you quit your bitching and do something productive. Would you rather they do nothing? Are you all pissy because you're missing TGIF?

Don't get me wrong PC.
I'm sure they all have contributed, but I'm also sure many common folk have as well.
I support the cause, both emotionally and financially. It's just sad that they feel they have to get together like this. Why not just donate and be done with it. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them look at this as a career move.

The thing is, march an orphaned child and have him stand there for 3 hours, and I guarantee it would be more effective.

Oh I know, but its too soon for a star infested telethon. But god bless em if they raise a ton of money, or a penny for that matter.

Even Americans have enough heart to realize that we don't need Jon bon jovi to tell us to give money.

quick personal story here. some kids around me asked my gf to make brownies so they could go to the waterfront area and sell them to raise money for the red cross. she did and they took 3 9x13 inch pans up with them charging $.75 a brownie. they came back with $105 the first day and about the same the second day. people were giving them $5 bills and saying, "keep the change" so pat is correct. oh and jewdown get a clue already, there are a number of celebrities that have donated 1 million each, including julia roberts, rosie o'donnell and im sure there are countless others who have contributed anonymously. just because they dont have a press conference to announce they have contributed, doesnt mean they haven't.

Why is it sad? Why is it sad that the entertainment community is showing solidarity and lending their aid to a cause? Does that mean that Live Aid was a sad gathering? Are all benefit concerts just a waste of time?

It doesn't matter what their reasoning is, only that they are doing something. If a fireman or police officer were working 20 hour shifts at ground zero just in the hopes of getting a promotion or a large over-time check would you say the same thing? No. It's the end that counts.

What about the people in the mid west and in all the small towns across america.Do you really think the have given much thought to this? For them seeing Tom Hanks and all the celebs asking them to help might just might open some eyes and get alittle bit more help for these people.

Froy, I never said the cause was not worth it. To quote Fez

Please don't misunderstand me. I do hope they raise an "s" load of cash. I hope they raise enough to rebuild 1000 WTC's.

what the HELL are you talking about?

have you ever hear dof a TELETHON?? That is exactly what it is & has ALWAYS been.. Celebrities using their FAME (if they will) to collect for charity..
You know EVERYONE in America is watching this wondering who's on & who's going to talk..
Normally these people wouldnt be watching a telethon & maybe they are thinking.. hey.. you know what I'm going to donate a dollar...

ITS WORTH IT.

so sit down & shut up... stop complaining.

Basically if you dont feel the need to donate then dont. You dont have to.And if you dont like the telecast you dont have to watch it either. This is America and you have a choice.Unlike the dead. They just chose to go to work or try to help.

Pat C, Holy Fuck!
Did I ever say I won't or didn't contribute?
I am being misunderstood.
I SUPPORT THE CAUSE!
I just think that the "telethong" is self serving for some (not necessarily all) of these celebs.
And I do have to watch, TGIF isn't on.
Sorry If I ruffled feathers tonight. Just expressing my opinion here.

I'm very happy that jewdown had the balls to start this thread....I second the fuck the celebs chant....they are so fucking pompous and self-serving that I could give a shit less what they think they are "contributing"....did any of you listen to that old fuck Clint Eastwood...these self-serving pricks could care less.....please you people are so much smarter than to fall into this realm of bullshit...don't get me wrong, pull out your visa cards and give everything you can...but if it takes seeing these self-loving fucks to get you motivated then......

an ammendment: if you fine folks were listening and watching closely to the end of the "gala" you would have noticed the voice coming over the air telling the "celebs" the lines for the song and how they all made "contact" with the camera when it was on them.....I so don't need our "artistic" community to make me feel better....donate and shut the fuck up...

Are you fucking kidding me?!

First don't blame them for what they said. They didn't write the speeches, they were written for them. Clint is an American Institution, be careful where you tread there.

And where is it written that because they are celebrities they don't care or don't feel the impact of what happened? Do you have any idea how ignorant you sound? Because they're famous or have money, they're any less American than you or I? I don't know the words either, does that make me un-American or a traitor? Who the fuck made you the grand inquisitor of patriotism?

who cares why they are doing it. The point is they are there because they are famous and everyone knows that when a famous person says something their fans listen. So why not put people up there with millions of fans??? Sure they may be doing it to use the camera time to show thier face, or they may not be... WHO CARES
The bottom line is they are just being used as well to get money for the people who DO MATTER, and that is whats important here, the people who the money is being raised for

Matt last time I checked this was still a free country and board bro...that said,I have no tolerance for these so called "icons" that we cherish in our great land that come off as such profound people at our time of solidarity...contribute whatever you can, and I agree about these folks using there best attribute, which is notarity, to raise money. but please to all of you, just watch how they made sure they elbowed each other at the end of the chirade to get camera time....
