The mods are in an even worse condition, because we care more about the site than the average poster. But it seems that we don't amount to much more than 10 party balloons tied to three 50-pound weights, trying to keep them afloat in the OA.com lake.

This message board has all the features necessary to serve its purpose. Explain what exactely I am doing to bring this site down? Why don't I just bring you up to speed on what I've done for this site in the past two months alone:

1) I've had OA.Com moved to its own, brand new dual processor server, more powerful than the one FoundryMusic is on.
2) I've had 512 mb of RAM added to the database server to increase query performance.
3) I've had the NAC DB ADMIN streamline OA.COM's SQL database for increased performance.

Let's go back to the beginning, shall we?

1) To increase advertising revenue, I customized the Banner Ad tool for Forum Specific Banner Ads.
2) I added an IP search function in the members tab of the admin section, which wasn't an original part of the board software.
3) I gave OpieAnthony.Com home page and community section exposure on FoundryMusic.

FTL, If you would like a copy of the code for your own records with the intention of increasing its performance, I would be happy to WINZIP the entire message board code and send it to you. That goes for anyone. You can play around with it on your own machine, and send it back to me, and I will upload it myself. If it works, and all of a sudden, due to your programmming wizardry the performance increases ten fold, I will applaud your skills, and we can all sit back and watch the money, members, and show mentions roll in...because we all know its me and the code that's holding the site back.

quote:

Oh, and Jeff, you truly live up to your S.T.O.N.E.R. title.... if you think being nice will help OA.com, pass me the bowl, cause you've got good shit. I don't really ever remember seeing you around OA.com before the switchover to the current board. Had you been here you might realize that the board was THRIVING, and was FUCKING RUTHLESS.... the board right now is TOO nice compared to the way it was....

You think being cruel was the reason why this board became popular? Let me tell you why this board became popular...the reason my interest was perked, the reason why EVERYONE came running to this board...two words...BANG PARTY. "You mean I can get sex if I join this board?" The days of Fingerbang and behind closed door sex romps have long been over, but at its peak, it was enough to overshadow everyone being bastards to one another. People will put up with a lot of shit to get laid. Now its gone, and all that's left is the negativity, and that's just not enough to sustain interest. You don't keep people around by making fun of them, and you don't win the support of the show by putting them down. Being fucking ruthless didn't make your board popular.

But, what's worse is your stupid Web Admin Policy to use the same syntax to enter Admin controls on BOTH sites! Like Jon wouldn't check that out, the bitter fuck that he is. He already kept quiet after he was demodded that he still had Mod powers.

Hahahah how wrong you are. The -1 Topic Deleter is not located in the same place on RonFez.Net. It's in an entirely different back end administration system, similiar to Over The Limit's. You can't hit it from http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/admin

You can type the URL in yourself.

Anyone could have typed in http://www.opieanthony.com/messageboard/admin to see the -1 Topic Deleter exposed. It was a mistake, I'm human, and I admit that, and repaired it. But the fact of the matter is, Maveric didn't take advantage of it.

So you see, it could've been ANYONE! A member, a mod, or just some idiot who stumbled on the admin address.

Well, I put it out there. If you want the code, you can have it. Let's see what you can do.

This is the 50 pound weight of runny dog shit, signing off.

Come off your fucking Clydesdale, dude. You "had" shit done. Any fucking monkey could tell the guys at NAC to do these things. It just happens to be your responsibility. If it were someone else's responsibility, they could have called whoever needs to be called to get the shit done. You fucking act like you built a new server yourself and did the upgrade. No, you called NAC and said we needed it. Unfortunately these responsibilities are NOT public domain, they're yours alone. You did your job. If you don't like your job, give it up. Don't make it seem like the end-all be-all of existence that you're doing it.

And a lot of good it did, too.... the board's still slow during show hours. All this brand-new spiffy equipment and we can't even support the user load - what did you accomplish with your calls to NAC?

quote:

1) To increase advertising revenue, I customized the Banner Ad tool for Forum Specific Banner Ads.

Thanks for that. I'm not going to go find the quote, but Matt has said we hardly make anything from banner ads.

quote:

2) I added an IP search function in the members tab of the admin section, which wasn't an original part of the board software.

Do enough shit, one thing's bound to be useful now and then.

And yes, the bang party did make the board explode - I can't argue with you there because I've been saying, since the beginning of people saying "The board sucks, the board is dying" that it's only going down due to lack of show mentions. Hell, I even said that within this thread.

The balloon/weight analogy explains one important thing, though. You may not think people pay attention to the folks in charge here, but they do. And they notice when mods are disgruntled. They notice when two out of the three "administrators" couldn't give two shits about the site, one of which has run off to another board for another show cause he couldn't hack it here.

Yeah, I think this board WAS a better place when it wasn't nice. Why? Cause you had to have BALLS to fuckin hack it here. The weak pussies were weeded out, only the strong survived, and it was a fucking fun place to post.

Ever since we started coddling every pussy and his grandmother - even you, Jeff - we started to go downhill.

You speak out against the board, you hate it so much, you pretend to quit - hey man, if you hate it so much, quit for real. Too many people are tired of your shit.

Do we need you? Fuck, to get rid of your bullshit, I'll take the NAC support numbers off your fragile hands. Will it ever happen? No, cause you want your invisible little internet power.

Fucking child.

Ok, I think this is getting out of hand, I do not enjoy watching this bickering.

Let me go on record and state this. Jeff has done a lot for this site. He has done things that I never asked him to and did them without ever expecting to be paid back for them.

Jeff does not owe us anything, and I think when someone does something helpful and nice for free, people are very quick to put that person in their control indefinitely.

I have no sides in this issue, my concern is not who winds up looking good or bad, or who winds up doing tasks for the site. I don't expect more from Jeff than I do anyone else here. I have disagreed with his decisions at times, but I have always respected and appreciated and had the utmost gratitude for what he has done to keep us alive.

Has he made mistakes? Yes, he has, but so have I, and so have all of you. And I think that this has degraded far too much into a private lynching.

All of that, and I haven't noticed any difference in performance.

That is not what I meant. I meant that the "admin' section was the same /admin/. All they (Just Jon or anyone else that is in the know (Mods / Admins at RF.net had to do was try the sme thing by adding the /admin/ to the end of the www.opieanthony.com link > see that it worked and notice the "delete -1 topic" link and Click it). Where the hell did I say that you used the same url extension to get to the "delete -1 topic?" Please point that out to me, "Mr. Hahahah."

quote:

Anyone could have typed in http://www.opieanthony.com/messageboard/admin to see the -1 Topic Deleter exposed.

Who is this anyone you speak of? The average member, of either site, would never know that to get to admin controls all you have to do is add /admin/. But since you were FOOLISH enough to use the same url extension "admin" the rejected oa.com members who are now admins at rf.net could easily try it out. Just Jon, with his computer background, and bitterness over his demise here at oa.com is a PRIME SUSPECT.

quote:

But the fact of the matter is, Maveric didn't take advantage of it.

Again, learn how to read! I already explained the motives as to why Mavric probably didn't burn us with the info. But, you are highly mistaken if you don't think he took advantage of it. I can sum up the "reward" he received for turning over the info in 1 word... Brundlefly.

quote:

So you see, it could've been ANYONE! A member, a mod, or just some idiot who stumbled on the admin address.

See above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How would "ANYONE" OTHER than a Mod stumble upon adding the extension /admin/ to enter the admin page? That's like saying I didn't mean to fuck that underage girl, but I slipped and my dick fell inside of her.

Sure Jeff, hand over the code. If some changes can be made that will help the board process shit faster, than everyone who uses the board is a winner. After all, it is the users of the board that we are serving, not out own egos.

Thank you in advance for all the code/tools/info that you will provide to those of us that want to take a look and see what can be done to help the site.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Listen, I respect everything Jeff HAS DONE for the site.

I don't expect ANYONE to respect what's going on in this thread, either side of the argument.

I'm content to let it end. We're certainly not helping anything out this way.

I agree, Jeff did do alot, and now he is willing to let those interested have a crack at it, to see what they can do since his interest has waned.

No need to rehash the past, when we are concerned over the future. With all the negativity in this thread we have concluded with a positive.

I'm done.

I am done with the above I personally don't really care but one thing I am gonna mention is.

quote:

You think being cruel was the reason why this board became popular? Let me tell you why this board became popular...the reason my interest was perked, the reason why EVERYONE came running to this board...two words...BANG PARTY. "You mean I can get sex if I join this board?" The days of Fingerbang and behind closed door sex romps have long been over, but at its peak, it was enough to overshadow everyone being bastards to one another. You don't keep people around by making fun of them, and you don't win the support of the show by putting them down. Being fucking ruthless didn't make your board popular.

Don't even act like you know my friend. All that other stuff if great, I personally kissed your ass so many times I can't even count. Whenever you were down in IM I would tell you how invaluble you were to this site, but like a woman which you told me, you need reassurance at times. I knew how stressful things were for you, but fuck dude we all lead stressful lives. But don't give me none of that "mean" shit. You've deleted an account, made numerous threats to anyone who said they didn't like something you did, Fights & arguments and taking away chat privlages from people who disliked how foundry's design was going so don't lecture no one here on mean. Nor think what made this site. Look at people who trully made this site... CBH, Slash, Face, Up, Me, none of them except Up and I ever even came out to a party nor had any interest except maybe some flirting which we all do and we all joined before. People like Afrika, Grumpy, Kingpin, TFEC, Fez, Gooch, Magoo, and the list goes on and on. Some of may have gotten laid but that was not the main reason or even a reason in joining, maybe for some I will agree. But what made people join mostly and you can ask gooch, sean, fez, fuggin, and others here who joined in October or later it wasn't the sex of the bang party, but the debauchary of it. The fact our names were on air the fact it was cluster fuck city here and the fighting made it great, it was an adrenaline shot. Look at the big fights in Fight Club 200 - 400 replies in them, in the FU forum yesterday we had 4 or 5 people on the board and still got 30 replies in under 30 mins in an argument there. So please spare me that.

Eh...hemmm...... excuse me, Mr Gonzostyle, sir... but fuggin moron was registered on Aug. 26, 2000 ...although, I never posted with that name until June or July of 2001. I was visiting oa.com back in the days of voice chat...I just didn't post. I actually re-registered as fugginmoron (with no space between words, then later changed to FN Moron) on October 3rd, 2000, not because of the Bang Party (although, that was definately interesting)...my interest was in SU. I was going to Las Vegas on Oct. 8th and really wanted to find an feed.

But, all that being said, you are correct in saying that I did not come to this board with the intention of taking part in a bang party or anything like that...

As one of the people mentioned by gonzo I feel I now have to comment a little. Jeff, while in simplistic terms your comment does hold merit, it's not the whole truth. Was interest in this board peaked because of the bang party. Damn fucking right it was. Did we flourish during those times? Damn fucking right we did. Let me ask you a little question though. How many of those people who joined this board looking to get laid are still around????????? I remember tons of those people who joined and asked when the next bang party were either banned or left because they were ripped a new asshole. They aren't what made this board what it was. It was always and will always be the personalities of the posters that make this board what it is and don't forget that. Sure show mentions are important and necessary and we do need them at this point in time, but will we die if we don't get them? I don't think so. If you listen to the naysayers, this board has been dieing for about 8 months now. Thats a pretty long time for something to die. So I wouldn't worry about us too much, we will be here for a while, if my fellow mods and I, along with our die hard members have anything to say about it.

I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.

Yeah Bob Hope's been dying for the last 20 years, just no one has told him.

That may be the reason YOU joined but doesn't mean that is why the whole boom joined. I mentioned those names cause those are people who stuck it through and those are people who actually can say they helped shape this board. It doesn't matter if you posted for SU or FU I meant that sex wasn't the main attraction. It's what I like to call the "extra gravy". Faceman also reiterated the point that those people like Fingerbang, wallst, darx, balloonnot, and others were torn and almost raped on this board for their actions.

Funny, I never thought Moron looked anything like Mayo Methot.
