| O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00  | I dont remember who, but somebody on the board said that reconfiguring Windows using the Regedit tool can vastly improve the performance of the modem, as windows is not defaultly set to maximize cable/dsl modems speeds. So i went to www.speedguide.net, and downloaded the patch that will change the registry for you, because not all of us are L33T. Before installing it, you should make a back-up of your current registry by going to Start>Run> Type in "Regedit", then export the settings to a folder where you can reload it should something go wrong. Select the patch for your Windows OS, install then reboot. After i installed the patch, i went to DSLreports.com and used their speed testers to test my modem. My Download speed is now 3056 kb/s (or 3mb per second). 61 times faster than 56k modems. Too goddamn fast for my own good. Thank you to whoever brought this up, i am forever in your debt. Just thought i'd share this little trick with the board. Now, just wait for FollowThisLogic to post and humilate me with his knowledge.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Installed it. I went to the graph. It said "Dude, your connection rocks" Tested speed before, it came in at 26 times faster than 56K. Now it's 99 times faster. Download was 1300, now 4993. Thanks Seph. Instead of downloading in minutes, it will be seconds now.THANK YOU SEPH | ||||

Also if you want to increase your speed even more get Download Accelerator Plus. It has ads but it is way worth it. I've seen my dl speeds go up 200% with this. It works by opening multiple connections for maximum speed. It just fucking rocks. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | Here you go Slack, or anyone else who haves problems. Click the Start Button, then click Run. In the dialog box, type in "Regedit". This will bring up the Registry editor window. Before you install the patch, you should save your previous settings, which is what is shown below. Click "Registry", then "Export Registry File".  Give the file a name, and select "All" under export range. Save the file somewhere where you will remember it ("My Documents" in my case).  Thats it.

I've been to speedguide.net before, but had completely forgotten about it by the time I re-did my computer with Win2K. 1330 down/640 up to 3163 down/840 up in one reboot. Life is good. Oh, and about backing up the registry.... Speedguide's download area (at least for Win2K, didn't look at the others) has a REG file that contains the default Windows settings, and when imported, just plug them back in where they belong.
