I hate to steal Tequila's job, but just wanted to remind everybody that the new mini-series premiers on HBO tonight at 9:00 p.m. I figure this can also be the thread to discuss the show. :)

Personally, I have been looking forward to this show for a while now, I only hope it can live up to the hype.

Kick ass show. Much of the same feel of Saving Private Ryan, however the mini-series allows more in depth character development.

I'm not going to go into too much detail in case any of you are looking to catch the replay, but so far I gotta give this show a big thumbs up.

What stirring and compelling television!

HBO does it again. What great battle scenes, my heart was seriously racing - it was like you were right there adrenaline flowing, ready to mow down some krauts!

This only reaffirms the debt we owe to "The Greatest Generation" for their bravery in defending liberty and freedom.

Schwimmer did a good job playing a total tool. But you know what, whatever the fuck this guy is in, he'll always be "Ross" to me and I can't take that guy seriously!

Office Space guy didn't play too large a role up to this point.

This definitely looks like a great series though, hasn't disappointed so far, and next week's episode looks just as good.

Hopefully the DVD will be out in time for Christmas.

That was an AMAZING start. Very well done.

But, I have to agree with one review I read. When they're all in camoflauge with the mud and facepaint, I can't tell anyone apart. And, I couldn't remember the name three characters right now. They all look to much alike.

Otherwise, that was a great show and I'll definitely be watching the rest.

Great show. Amazing.

Dent, after Private Ryan was made, Hanks and Speilberg said that they were disappointed. Disappointed that they didn't get to show it like it "really" was. They sort of hollywoodized Private Ryan. They didn't want to do that with this one. So if you can't tell the characters apart that's why. Personally I'd rather see it like this. The "REAL" way. It makes it that much more real to have all of the elements there, even though it may cloud your viewer judgement. REmember.... War isn't made to be televised. But they're doing a GREAT job re-creating war for this series so far.

Is it just me, or would you have messed your pants if you had to jump out of that plane with all that friggin Flak going on under you. That was some seriously scary shit.

AD...I think the point of this series is to show the ties of a unit, not the individual person in the war. It took thousands to invade Normandy and they did it all justice by only singling out a unit and not a particaular person.

I disagree. I think that role was casted POORLY. They could have found a much slimier actor to play that role...I would've loved to see the weirdo from the Green Mile (the guy who played the liver eater in X-Files)...he's VERY slimy...

Yes, luckily I have Joey to tape these things for me.

I told him this as well. Read the book. It was an excellent read, everything by Stephen Ambrose is.

This was a great Show. I didn't think that Shiwmer was that bad. I think he did a good job in the role. Half way through i was able to forget the ross thing, at least up until the Fence sence. But i can't wait until next sunday. It's nice to have something to watch on TV besides Family Guy.

You guys think that Schwimmer was miscast in the role. But do you know anything about Capt. Sobel? He actually played him very well. I thought his acting in the "critical" moments were superb. Being lost, getting ambushed, etc...he played an excellent slimy character.

AWESOME SHOW! For those of you that have a dish or digital cable, it was even broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. I think the scene that really open up my eyes was when the Airborne paratroopers were parachuting down into occupied terratory. I'd always had this image of them dropping down without all the enemy fire and flak coming up at them. They were basically in flying coffins. The whole show was great. Personally, I was glad to see all that mud and camoflauge on their faces. Finally a show about the men that fought the war, and not the over-paid, big-headed, whiney, self-centered actors portraying them.

A+

I got a couple things.

1. Band of brothers? more like BLAND of brothers! I actually only saw the last 5 min. of it, but I had to use the line somewhere so I can sue the first critic who steals it. hoo, hoo, hoo

2. Why was it in 5.1 and letterboxed on one hbo, and normal on the other. seemed like huge waste of programing time to me.

3.

he was also in "American Outlaws", and I've heard he's up for an oscar in that.

P.S. I am not a crackpot.

I enjoyed both episodes. Schwimmer started off great then reverted to "Ross" by the fence scene. I liked the scene when they ate spaghetti at mess then had to run 3 miles up, 3 miles down-chunks were blown nicely. Very artistic.

First off I agree the first one was a little slow but required for all the back ground, and training info. The second one rocked, Oh my I was just intranced with the scence where they flying over that town, and about to drop in. The fight scence where very real looking, and I cannot wait till next Sunday.

Mayanard, my only point, which I expressed poorly, is that if you were reading the book, you would KNOW exactly who everybody was and what they were doing, what they did next, etc. So, when someone yells that someone just died, you KNOW who died and what they had done before.

I mean, can you name the guy who was shooting at the Germans from up in the tree? Or what he did after he got out of the tree?

In the end though, it does a good job of showing how the military views a soldier. Faceless, non-individual in camoflauge.

Like I said, other than that, it's an EXCELLENT show.

Donnie Wahlberg, and he went from gun emplacement to gun emplacement with TNT, only to find that it was no longer needed. :)
