Long ago i posted a favorite book thread then i believe Ikea posted a what are you reading thread. Well after a conversation with a board member just now. I was wondering is anyone reading something now? Whether it be for inspiration, leisure, coping, or to just get your mind of things.

PB was telling me she was reading "The Art Of War" by Sun Tzu which is one of my favorites a book of true wisdom not only in art of war but in life and inner learning.

I am currently reading a book similar, not in subject but in wisdom.

The Bhagavad-gita as is, by Swami Prabhupada.

And i just finished reading A book on the holocaust.

So what is everyone here on?

The book I ordered over a month and a half ago just came, and I am going to finally start it this weekend:

The Hero With A Thousand Faces by J. Campbell

It's sorta about God, I can't really describe it so well now since I haven't read it yet.

Actually I'm waiting for my neighbor Jay to finish reading it first....I should have it by the weekend. I just finished reading Anne Rice's Merrick not too long ago.

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I just finished Choke by Chuck Palahuik which I particularly liked.

I've currently moved onto Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? which I was looking for for a while. The book blade runner was based on.

I found both these books on sidewalk stands in the city. You'll find the coolest books on sidewalk stands.

I've actually picked up one of my favorite series, inspired to do so inpart to escape, in part out of boredom, and in part because of discussions with Slackjaw and Fbdling (or whatever you spell it) in chat.. and am currently on book 2 of Edding's Belgariad.. after I go through the Eddings series (about a month for the full 18 books of his 4 series) I'll probably start my yearly perusal of Lord of The Rings.. in Preparation for the film series starting in December.

I just finished Mind Hunter by John Douglas which I thought was really interesting. Douglas was an FBI agent and the book tells about a lot of his cases that deal with serial killers. For school I'm now reading Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway, and Band of Brothers which they just made into an HBO series. They're all good except for Tender is the Night which is a shitty romance novel.

The sick thing is the only detail i can remember from Gatsby is that when that one girl get's hit by the car (I think) Fitgerald actually wrote "her breast hung by a thin strip of skin" or something to that extent when describing what happened....

Gonzo, I've yet to read The Great Gatsby. As soon as I finish Tender is the Night I'll be starting it. I hate F. Scott Fitzgerald so I doubt I'll like it, although everyone has been telling me I will. We'll see.

What are you reading now?

See for yourself

;-)

Actually, I'm just about to select my next read. Thinking about something light, maybe Sein-lanuage, one of Dennis Miller's offerings or the newest George Carlin (btw, I'm open to suggestions for other books within this genre).

Gonzo, which Holocaust book did you recently finish?

I like hamlet too indeed.. after finally being able to wrap my brain around The Bard's archaic phrasings I truly understand why he's known as "The Bard"
Plus.. how can you NOT love a story that inspired a spin off that included one of the greatest philisophical statements of our time?

... actually.. I might go drop that into Kids quotes game and see if anyone can place it......

I liked the great gatsby...it takes place in my hometown, theres actually a Gatsby Lane up on the water where the REALLY expensive houses are.

I'm taking a shakespeare course right now, so i'm kinda putting my other reading on hold for right now, its hard to really get shakespeare when you're reading 4 things at once. Right now we're doing Midsummer Night's Dream, but we're going thru a play in about 2 weeks so i'll be on something else soon.

when i get a chance, i want to read The Art of War also, i was talking to Grumpy a few times and he mentioned that its something i really should get to.

Well if grumpy read the art of war i suggest he read it again, lol. Maybe if he fully comprehended it the c-blockers might still be around.

Contrary to popular belief I do have some amount of intelligence and I do read actual books that don't have to do with sex. Besides, I don't even read dirty stories, I just write them. :)

So you got sort of a kinda brain?

My favorite assigned book in HS was actually Catcher In the Rye. I read the book on my own but i was only 12 so i didn't fully appreciate the true meaning of the book till i re-read it at 16.

catcher in the rye and Great Gatsby I also enjoyed. (I didn't enjoy many of the books in high school). Originally I didn't like CitR but it grew on me and as for Gatsby I always liked it. It had a pretty cool flow, cool characters and just a good style I got into. However 1984 was just so cool it one of my two favorite books.

I always thought Fahrenheit 451 was horribly overrated

Halfway through your post i was gonna reply that i never enjoyed Farenheit 451. I read it in school and on my own twice, i just did not enjoy it at all. It's an entertaining book somewhat but not the classic everyone makes it out to be.

I actually have wanted to re-read fight club for a while now, but i can not seem to find my copy.

1984 is an amazing book and the film is also a masterpiece the hurt version. It kind of reminds me of watch charlie chaplins "Modern Times" just a prolific statement of life as was "the great dictator" and "2001"
