Well, day 3 of this. Reading up on the protest, courtesy of ABC News.

The Steel Pact that many European countries signed after WWII enable them to export steel at a price comparable to the US at the time. The pact was a predecessor to the EU, and was also a chief cause of the downfall of the city of Buffalo, who once held the claim as being the largest steel port in the world.

I feel this is very true. Globalization should not be the largest countries in the world setting up shop, but rather helping lesser countries get on their feet and offer competitive prices for goods. Like Sam Kinison said about most third world countries "You live in a fucking desert! Nothing grows here!" It's always been difficult for me to understand why poor countries stay poor, is it lack of democracy due to warlords being in charge, actual geographic location, or inability to truely become a democratic capitalist society?

I suppose it could be that the deep schism between western and eastern culture is the most difficult to compromise, because the Western world seems to know the solution, while the Eastern doesn't see a problem.

Jays-Corporations don't just make a product and shove it down the consumers throats. If a viable market can't be established then the product won't be made.

First, ideas are thought of, prototypes are made, then these prototypes are shown to focus groups. If a bunch of kids are brought in and enjoy playing with a rubber sock they can't hold on to then the company will think it has a product to market. If these kids say, "Hey all this is is a rubber fucking sock" then this product will never see the light of day.

Figured you wouldn't be upset about no electricity. No electricity = no burning of fossil fuel = less pollution. See they're just doing their part for the environment. :-)
