| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70  | considering i only really smoke at board functions and work, I think it's getting a little out of hand. Most of you probably think I'm a fucking chimney. So, I think I better quit for a while. Any suggestions? BTW -- I'm never going to stop drikning considering I only do it once every 3-4 weeks. But the smoking has to stop... HELP!

| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Dec. 00 | I'm officially nicotine free for 5 months now. How? Zyban. Warning: it has some really "interesting" side effects. They all go away after you stop the meds. Side Effects: - Screwed up sleep (insomnia, restlessness) - Dry mouth - Dry Sinuses (sea water spray helped) - A couple of nights of serious nightmares - Mood swings It's all worth it though. After you use the meds, cigs taste like crap and you get disgusted by the smell. Good Luck honey. IM me if you need help. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Dec. 00 | Shelle - I've tried to quit several times over the last 18 years or so of smoking. No matter what method you choose, there is one important factor. YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT! Deep down inside, you really really have to be committed. otherwise, you'll fall right back off the wagon. YOU HAVE TO BE COMMITTED TO SMOKING. The one thing Zyban does is it helps with the psychological effects of addiction. It's an anti-depressant so you really don't give a shit if you smoke one or not. It takes about 2 weeks for the chemicals to take effect though. BTW - Gooch - I'm glad I've had such an outstanding effect on you. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Apr. 01 | i tried th epatch and it made me dizzy all the time. i quit once cold turkey for 10 months. then i went to finland to do some work and everyone there smokes like a stack. couldnt get away from it and i fell. i find it easier with a friend because then it becomes like a contest. neither of you wants to be the first to break. I only do so at board parties and at work ((not that it makes it any better)) It's weird, I'm not really addicted to it, I just do it to keep me thin ((well, attempt to keep me thin...)) Other than that, I agree it's a disgusting horrible habit.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | I would love to, but the woman doesnt want to quit, so we wont be for a while. We are currently in the process of buying a new house, and we will not smoke in the house. I tried Zyban when I was in comp. school, and I almost had a seizure. I fell and passed out, I was okay, but I was sweating and feverish and felt like total shit. I stopped taking them and just startede smoking again. One thing I did was instead of cigs when I drank I smoke cigars, which helps. That usually stopped me from smoking cigs most of those nights.  | ||||

And as of Friday i will be smoke free for 4 weeks now. But to be honest i could use a smoke right about now! :-) Just get it done and over with. Just think ya won't smell like a dirty ashtray.
