Straw that comment wasn't directed at you it was at how I will pay taxes and not be a leech like you stated.

A huge political myth ever is that Ronald Reagan brought the Soviet Union down. The Soviet Union was spiraling down since the 70s and was brought down more with Gorbachev's reforms than anything Reagan did.

A myth? I don't think so, AM. The Soviet Union was financially crippled by:

1) Their "command economy" which decided that it would be a great idea to ignore basic principles of supply and demand so the people in that great socialist republic were stuck with 8 million pairs of ill-fitting boots, but had to stand in line for toilet paper.

2) The fact that they were forced, by Reagan and the brilliant Mutually Assured Destruction strategy, to enter into an arms race that they could not win. We had the money to spend on our military and put a lot of it into R&D which helped our economy on the back-end. The soviets with their bizarre political and economic system were forced to try and keep up with a battle they could never win.

The "Evil Empire" lost, Mr. Gorbachev did have to "tear down this wall." Ronnie kicked some ass and revitalized America. People felt GOOD about their country again, something that wasn't always the case under the "malaise" of the 70's and the Nixon/Ford/Carter administrations.

The Soviet Union liked to call itself a Socialist Republic but in the West they were quick to point it that it wasn't democratic but they weren't to point out that the Soviet Union was not Socialist. Many Socialists refer to the Soviet Union as "State Capitalism".

The economy was good for a short while until it burned apart. That's simple Reaganomics for you. And the Soviets were getting into trouble ever since the 70s with their short-lived premiers. When Gorbachev came in and offered more freedom the people wanted to get rid of "State Capitalist" system. It wasn't because of Reagan it had to do more with people getting tired of being abused by the Soviet Union.

State capitalism? Well, that's quite a clever ploy on the part of the socialists out there to try and twist some words about (far be it for those pesky Ruskies to want to refer to their system as socialist!), but I don't seem to recall too much of the Soviet system being based upon any capitalistic ideas whatsoever.

I believe that the Fascists seemed to be more about state capitalism than the Communists ever were.

Actually you may think that term was started socialists after the Soviet Union fell it began in the early 30s. As much as it may surprise you there was much Socialist oppostion to the Soviet Union. They consider it capitalist because the Soviet Union exploited many of their workers for their own gain far from what many Socialists wanted.

Edit-Here we go another Socialism discussion lol.
