Ohhhh no! I reened it! :)

It's stupid but I love to hear those misguided Sox fans cheer when the PG was broken up, to think the ONLY thing they have to cheer about is that is hilarious.

Besides, this not the first time the Moose has flirted with history. I remember watching Live Sportscenter's and baseball tonights where there were live game breaks to tell us how many innings of no-hit/perfection he had pitched and later on, how he had it ended. Oh well, maybe next time.

The Yankees are up by nine games and the series as a whole, was perfect, even without a perfect game in-byfacto.

EDIT1 -- Poor Mike, "This marked the third time in his career that Mussina (14-11) had taken a perfect-game bid into the eighth inning.

'I know it's only happened 15 times or so in history,' Mussina said. 'I was that close again'." -- AP

He didn't looked too upset when he won the game, though.

EDIT2 --

Sept. 3 at TOR -- Sterling Hitchcock (3-3, 6.06) vs. Roy Halladay (3-1, 4.05)
Sept. 4 at TOR -- Andy Pettitte (14-8, 3.77) vs. Chris Carpenter (8-11, 4.31)
Sept. 5 at TOR -- Roger Clemens (18-1, 3.48) vs. Kelvim Escobar (6-5, 3.13)

This game was incredible. WOuld have been perfect if Mussina got that fuckhead. Also wish Coney did not take the loss instead of teh pathetic Red Sox bullpen. I can't believe that sonofabitch still has some good stuff left in him.

Awesome game. See ya Red Sox.

BOSTON SUCKS!!!!!!

I wonder what Lee Mazilli said to Cone when he walked off the mound in the 8th ? Whatever it was it looked like Cone was very touched by it.

The Red Sox and yet another season of failure: The only thing a Mets fan can be happy about this season.

Oh, and isnt intersting that technically the Mets have a better chance of making the playoffs?

I'll go back to my thread now.

What an awesome game!!! Really a shame that Moose didn't get the perfecto after being sooooooo close. But what the hell was he thinking throwing that pitch??? Well once he wins a World Series Championship I guess that won't matter much :)

But the Yankees just continue to roll on. Shane Spencer was awesome in the outfield tonight and it's amazing how well Enrique Wilson has been playing; game-winning ribbie last night, a couple runs in the eigth to tie it tonight.

The game was only marred by Jorge Posada for bumping that ref and inadvertenly spattering a little saliva on his mug. Two games would be fine if in fact he did spit in Fletcher's face. Robbie Alomar got five games when he did it.

Yankees are up by 8 games in the loss column (9 1-2 in the standings but that's of no significance) which means there magic number has dwindled down to #17 with twenty-four games to play. 17 combined wins or Boston losses and we're AL East champs once again :)

TEAM WON LOST PCT GB
---- --- ---- --- --
NY YANKEES 82 56 .594 -
BOSTON 71 64 .526 9 1/2
TORONTO 67 71 .486 15
BALTIMORE 55 81 .404 26
TAMPA BAY 49 88 .358 32 1/2

And too bad the Mets are finally starting to play well with so little time left. They practically have to sweep the Braves to have a chance.

Yankees 4, Blue Jays 3

-----------------------------------------------------------
TORONTO (AP) - Roger Clemens set a Yankees record with his 15th straight victory , leading New York over the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 Wednesday night.

Clemens (19-1) also became just the second player in major league history to win 19 of his first 20 decisions. Rube Marquard of the New York Giants did it in 1912.

Clemens, the AL's first 19-game winner, passed Jack Chesbro and Whitey Ford for the longest winning streak in Yankee history. Chesbro won 14 straight in 1904, and Ford won 14 in 1961.

Clemens, seeking his sixth career 20-win season, will make his next start either Monday night against Boston or Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.

The 39-year-old right-hander, who hasn't lost since May 20 at Seattle - a span of 19 starts - took a five-hit shutout into the eighth before Alex Gonzalez hit a two-run homer.

Clemens, who doesn't have a complete game this season, allowed two runs on six hits in 7 1-3 innings. He struck out five and walked four.

The Yankees, who entered with a 9 1/2-game lead over Boston in the AL East, are 26-3 in Clemens' 29 starts.

Mariano Rivera got five outs for his 44th save in 50 opportunities. He allowed an RBI single by pinch-hitter Luis Lopez with two outs in the ninth.

David Justice homered and drove in three runs for the Yankees, who went 5-1 on their road trip.

Clemens' 15-game winning streak is the longest in the majors this season. He is 6-0 against Toronto since being traded by the Blue Jays to New York in 1999.

Clemens is 29-3 since coming off the disabled list in July 2000.

Kelvim Escobar (6-6) hit Randy Velarde with a pitch in the first, and Bernie Williams singled. Justice then hit an RBI single with two outs, giving New York a 1-0 lead.

Williams doubled in the sixth, and Justice hit Escobar's first pitch for his 18th homer.

Tino Martinez added an RBI double off Pedro Borbon in the eighth.

Clemens walked Jose Cruz Jr. in the eighth before Gonzalez hit his 14th homer, cutting New York's lead to 4-2.

Escobar, who had won his previous four decisions, allowed four runs on six hits in 7 1-3 innings. He left his last start with numbness in his fingers, but didn't seemed to be bothered by the problem against the Yankees.

Notes:@ Enrique Wilson, playing shortstop in place of the injured Derek Jeter, robbed Shannon Stewart of a hit with a backhanded stab of a hard groundball in the first. ... Jeter won't play until at least Monday because of a strained left hamstring. ... Clemens leads the AL with 191 strikeouts. ... Toronto's Raul Mondesi missed the game because of the flu.
-----------------------------------------------------------

TOP!

Wow, this thread is going way to low considering we're getting so close to the playoffs. And night school completely screws up my ability to watch these Yankee games.

Roger has been amazing. Whether his performances are influenced by any sort of offensive explosions the Yankees undergo when he's pitching should be irrelevant; he will win the 2001 AL Cy Young, he's done something that in all the anals of baseball hasn't been done in about 90 years. But ultimately, Clemens will not be judged squat by what he does now but rather what he does in October.

And nighty-night Boston, you're done.

EDIT1--

Sept. 7 vs. BOS -- Orlando Hernandez (1-6, 5.43) vs. Pedro Martinez (7-2, 2.22)
Sept. 8 vs. BOS -- Mike Mussina (14-11, 3.39) vs. David Cone (8-4, 4.13)
Sept. 9 vs. BOS -- TBA vs. TBA
Sept.10 vs. BOS -- TBA vs. TBA

And if Pedro does take the mound tomorrow with that inflamed shoulder, Dan Duquette should be fired on the spot.

'nuff said.

EDIT1-- Well there's a bit more to say,

Red Sox 2, Yankees 9; Mussina wins his 15th

Tino drove in five runs, his second 5-rbi game of the season. ... Yankees win their sixth straight against boston, their eigth win in nine games overall. ... The Red Sox fall 12 games behind the Yankees in the AL East (11 in the loss column), the largest defecit since 1998. .......

The Yankees Magic Number: #10 :)

Ten combined Yankee wins and Boston losses and the Yankees will clinch their fourth consecutive AL East Title.

Tough loss last night. The ceremonies were beautiful. Everyone was given an American flag as they entered the stadium. They had a bald eagle grounded on the pitcher's mound. Quite a few tears were shed. Especially that of my friend Don who was working on the 12th floor of 2 WTC when it happened. Guliani was there and was given a huge round of applause as were 4 of the rescue workers who threw out the first pithces. The game was terrible but it was still a good ight to be there.

Note to anyone going to a game: Don't bring any umbrellas, large bags or knap sacks, they won't let you in.

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Beginnings are scary. Endings are usually sad, but it's what's in the middle that counts. So, when you find yourself at the beginning, just give hope a chance to float up. And it will.
