I think everyone has their own unique reasons as to why they go out and see them still. I know I was happy to hear "St. Anger" & "Frantic" played live.

Much more so than a 15 minute rendition of Seek & Destroy....

Try and defend this latest CD all you want, the music blows and everyone knows it. I've been a Metallica fan since Kill 'Em All (my copy was a copy of a record that was given out at a show when they self-promoted themselves), and Lars' drumming back then was highly influential on my instruction back then. They simply don't have it anymore. Sure, they can rock out live, but their new material is awful.

this is purely opinion, one you have every right to have.

Lars was the first drummer I modeled myself after. Master of Puppers was the first CD I learned to play along with. Trust me, I can relate to the disappointment you express I just disagree as to the reasons over the disappointment, that's all.

And why does finding what theyre putting out make me or anyone else less of a fan, or stuck in the past? WHAT THEY USED TO WRITE KICKED ASS - WHAT THEY WRITE NOW DOES NOT.

hmm, if you like them less now because of the "crap" they've been releasing then, YES, you are now less of a fan by your OWN ADMISSION.

It's not about being stuck in the 80's because as was mentioned in this thread (and I mentioned in another thread elsewhere), Maiden has managed to keep putting out solid CD's despite going through some lineup changes (though the Balze stuff is really awful, but you can't blame them considering he wasn't much to work with).

Sorry but I'm just not into Maiden like you and Sloats are. IMO, those guys never evolved and that = BORING to me. (much love to P.O.M, S.I.T & 7th Son though)

As a musician I enjoy hearing bands evolve. Good bands evolve, they change over time. I don't want a band to give me the same album over and over again.

After Seventh Son, Maiden did nothing more but attempt to rehash the great dual harmony leads and such that was all over their previous work.

They lose Dickenson, they sucked even moreso. They realize it so what do they do? Get Brucie back into the band to do what exactly?? Try to capture the same magic they had years ago. End result - formulatic tripe.

St. Anger is unlike any of their previous efforts, IMO. I can only hope that on the next album, they keep the ferocious energy and just clean things up a bit production wise.

The point is, they're MTV Icons - that in and of itself is awful. This is a band who prided themselves on not being sellouts to the industry, prided themselves on being true to the fans, and true to their music. Now, they're the complete opposite.

See, to me, I say "goo fo you Metallica! Goo fo you!" Let them be MTV Icons....

Pop in a copy of Cliff em All and then come talk to me about how they're still the same fellas - they became that which they used to despise. Cliff is probaly rolling in his grave 24/7.

Look, I'm not saying that Metallica is exactly the same as yesteryear..they simply are not. Humans get older and change over time, its what we all do.

A musician is no different. A good musician welcomes it and explores other forms of expression within their craft. Metallica did this with Load, Reload and the Symphony album and then decided to go back to their personal roots.

I can hear it in their songs, that raw energy of yesteryear... Folks like you Goat and Sloats, you guys can't.

(and I'm not trying to hate on Maiden, they were the first band I ever saw in concert. I have respect for them but not as much as Metallica)
