going to see Ani and Dan Bern tomorrow. yeah..i know you guys don't care...im just excited and wanted to share so :p to all of you

overlap

ani difranco

i search your profile
for a translation
i study the conversation
like a map
'cause i know there is strength
in the differences between us
and i know there is comfort
where we overlap

come here
stand in front of the light
stand still
so i can see your silhouette
i hope
you have got all night
'cause i'm not done looking,
no, i'm not done looking yet

each one of us
wants a piece of the action
you can hear it in what we say
you can see it in what we do
we negotiate with chaos
for some sense of satisfaction
if you won't give it to me
at least give me a better view

come here
stand in front of the light
stand still
so i can see your silhouette
i hope
you have got all night
'cause i'm not done looking
no,
i'm not done looking yet

i build each one of my songs
out of glass
so you can see me inside of them
i suppose
or you could just leave the image of me
in the background, i guess
and watch your own reflection superimposed

i build each one of my days out of hope
and i give that hope your name
and i don't know you that well
but it don't take much to tell
either you don't have the balls
or you don't feel the same

come here
stand in front of the light
stand still
so i can see your silhouette
i hope
you have got all night
'cause i'm not done looking
no, i'm not done looking yet

i search your profile for a translation
i study the conversation like a map
'cause i know there is strength
in the differences between us
and i know there is comfort
where we overlap

don't ask me why i'm crying
i'm not going to tell you what's wrong
i'm just gonna sit on your lap
for five dollars a song
i want you to pay me for my beauty
i think it's only right
'cause i have been paying for it
all of my life

i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
and i'm gonna go away...

we barely have time to react in this world
let alone rehearse
and i don't think i'm better than you
but i don't think that i'm worse
women learn to be women
and men learn to be men
and i don't blame it all on you
but i don't want to be your friend

i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
and i'm gonna go away...

i was eleven years old
he was as old as my dad
and he took something from me
i didn't even know that i had
so don't tell me about decency
don't tell me about pride
just give me something for my trouble
'cause this time, it's not a free ride

i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
i'm gonna take the money i make
and i'm gonna go away...

don't ask me why i'm crying
i'm not going to tell you what's wrong
i'm just gonna sit on your lap
for five dollars a songs
i want you to pay me for my beauty
i think it's only right
'cause i have been paying for it
all of my life

now i just wanna take
and i'm just gonna take
i'm gonna take
and i'm gonna go away

Chick Singers
dan bern

Well, this bald-headed girl I know
Sent me a tape of Bjork and Courtney Love
And PJ Harvey
Called it "Brilliant Women"
I put it in my car
Heard it all the way down to the coast
Normally, if left to my own devices
I don’t hear chick singers much
I guess it’s guys I hear the most
Sometimes these days
Don’t it seem like it’s enough
For girls to love a girl
Or use the F word prominently
Masturbate in public
Or learn guitar tied up to a post
I thought of all this hearing Bjork and Courtney Love and PJ Harvey
In my car driving to the coast

Tori Amos, Liz Phair, Sinead O’Connor,
Suzanne Vega, Jill Sobule,
Melissa Etheridge,
Tracy Chapman, Ani Difranco,
Michelle Shocked

Every one of them
Has something kinda special that I like
But every now and then
While listening to them
I feel like when we were kids
I pulled their hair or stole their bike
These days, it seems like
There’s a lot of girls who sing
And some of them are good
And some of them are not
But it’s always kinda cool
That moment when they first step to the mike
If I was a girl
I could sing real high
And, also, then
I’d know what having breasts would be like

Chick singers
Chick singers
Chick singers

I started thinkin’ ‘bout
Kate Bush, Patsy Kline, Billie Holiday
Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith, Patti Smith
Annie Lenox, Chrissie Hynde
And Bonnie Raitt

Seems like there’s an awful lot of women
In whose honor I would
Like to raise my glass
And give a toast
Some of them are still alive
And some, I hear their voices like a ghost
Maybe this Thursday,
I’ll throw a party
And invite every woman
That ever sang a song
This would be a party
That I think I would like to be the host
Thanks to the bald-headed girl
Whose tape of Bjork and Courtney Love
And PJ Harvey
I heard driving to the coast

Marilyn
dan bern

Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller

But if she did
He'd a taken her to Paris
And if she did
She'd have smoked a lot of opium
And if she did
She'd have dyed her hair blue
And if she did
She might be alive

Oh-ohh Henry Miller
Oh-ohh Marilyn Monroe
Oh-ohh Henry Miller
Oh-ohh Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
She lived outside the Tropic of Capricorn
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
I don't even know if she knew Henry Miller

But if she did
He'd a taken her to Paris
And if she did
They'd have fucked every day
And if she did
She'd have felt like a woman
Not a photogragh
In a magazine

Oh-ohh Henry Miller
Oh-ohh Marilyn Monroe

This is not a knock against Arthur Miller
Death of a Salesman is my favorite play
But Marilyn Monroe
Should have married Henry Miller
And if she did
She might be alive

Cause if she did
He'd have taken her to Paris
Tied her to the bed
And eaten dinner off of her
And okay maybe
she'd have died the same, anyway
But if she did
she'd have had more fun

Oh-ohh Henry Miller
Oh-ohh Marilyn Monroe
Oh-ohh Henry Miller
Oh-ohh Marilyn Monroe
ani defrancos lytics are childish and lacking in any sort of subtlety. i like dan bern though
first of all that's difranco...secondly i don't care what you say Smile
I thought I was gonna have to mop up the blood after this one.

:whew:
Maybe after the concert when she comes down from the euphoria of it all, and reads this again.
her lyrics are so obvious. she is the type of singer that appeals to girls who like to think they are deep.
they wear patchouli, and little woven bracelets. they like to sit around in a dark little room with a black candle and discuss whats wrong with the world with thier equally vaccuous(sp?) and self-involved friends. they think because ani has a rebel haircut and a guitar that she ripping away the facade of the fascist male dominated world and bringing truth to the people. i cant stand that childish self-important pompous bullshit! i am not saying this is you, just my generalization of ani dIfranco and her fans. enjoy the show!

ROFLMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what an ultra-maroon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote:what an ultra-maroon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, you really are.

How about just shutting up for once instead of shitting on someone just to get a rise out of them.
she was sharing her feelings about ani, i was adding to the thread. you are just pissed cause you got called a patchouli wearing chick
I know I'm a chick, but I NEVER wear patchouli. I like smelling like reefer.
Difranco.... Difranco......

Is that the one that got Raped?
white people are so scared of black people
she'd be cute if she took all of the piercings out, washed her hair, and shaved
"Is that the one that got Raped? "

no, that was tori amos. she rocks
Quote:no, that was tori amos. she rocks
Yea, I love that song she did with Cannibal Corpse.
