So what happens if the Yankees don't take at least 2 of 3 against the Red Sox this series?

Who gets fired? Who gets traded?
torre doesn't deserve to be fired. signing abreau was a dumb move. you have to hope matsui and cano come around eventually. the yankees won't clean house until we get closer to the trade deadline, when teams are able to assess their chance of making the playoffs more accurately.

the vicious cycle of trading away young players for 'win now' aging superstars will hopefully not be the direction they go this year. if cashman is truly in charge, he will do the prudent thing and try and rebuild instead.
They didn't sign Abreu, they traded for him. And they didn't even give anything to get him.
sign, trade, either way he's awful
Suzyn Waldman screamed at Christopher Russo for about 10 minutes before the game outside of the WFAN booth. She was furious at how Mike and the Mad Dog made fun of her call of the Roger Clemens announcement at Yankee Stadium. An eyewitness told the LoHud Yankee Blog that they thought Waldman was going to slap Russo.

while abreu is having trouble this year, to say that he was an awful sign is proof of your complete lack of insight into the game of baseball.
i could not have been more wrong.
Suzyn Waldman is an annoying cunt - fuck her, I'd rather listen to Sterling come up with catchy phrases like "The Great Giambino", etc.

Yankee radio broadcasts are fucking garbage.
The radio games just haven't been the same since Charlie Steiner left. At least he could call an inning while Sterling took a dump.
"georgie juiced one" is fuckin brilliance!
if by brilliance you mean fucking disgusting, then I agree.
i would be more appropriate if he said 'giambi juiced one!!!'

Like 85 wins.

This may have been overly optimistic.

Though do you realize of the Yankees $215 MM payroll, they are going to have about $80MM come off after this year.

$25MM for Clemens
$15MM for Abreu
$13MM for Posada
$11MM for Rivera
$10MM for Pavano
$6MM for Torre

Now, the Yanks are only paying $16MM a year for Arod, and if he opts out of his contract, they'll obviously be on the hook for a lot more than that.

plus after 2008, they get another ~$50MM off the books: Giambi ($22MM), Pettite ($16MM) and Mussina ($11MM)

Point is: I can see them spending a ridiculous amount on free agents the next couple years, but this offseason there really aren't many high upside free agents out there (Dunn would be a good addition, but Andruw Jones is on a serious decline, Carlos Zambrano is breaking down, etc)
thats a wonderful sig pic you have there, sparky.

- torre's 6 million does not count
- posada will be resigned, probably for just about the same amount of money
- rivera also will be resigned

dunn fits in because he has a lot of power, but is also a career 246 hitter with a tendency to strike out a lot. defensively he is a liability as a corner outfielder, they could possibly shift him over to first. bottom line he is not that great.

andrew jones is a 38 year old in a 30 year olds body, not to mention they would have to either move damon to a corner outfield spot, most likely left field since he doesnt have a good enough arm to play right field, and then move matsui to right field....whom is another defensive liability.

it's all just a huge disaster for that team.
ok, im starting to think this may not be the yanks year...
Wait till Clemens flies into a building
the press will have a field day with "the rocket" puns.
ugh
I think the Yankees may be tanking the season in order to draft Greg Oden.

They are 1 game ahead of the Washington Nationals. Only 5 teams in baseball have a worse record than the Yankees.

The division will be essentially won by August 31 and Schilling and Beckett will just hang out and play cards for a month and rest for the playoffs.
