PS2 is not a computer like xbox. you could mod PS2 to play backed up games but you cant run programs on it like XBox can like Media Center.

It's not harassment if she enjoys it.

PS2 media player
wow, thats great. and you dont even need a mod chip.
heres a review from someone who has it...

I have it, and have used it to watch hundreds of videos, and for the most part, it works wonderful. I've watched downloaded movies, anime, tv eps, and used it for mp3's. However, it does have some flaws.

It doesn't support video at 640x480 or higher, so if you have to re-encode your files that are higher.

Depending on how the audio was encoded, the audio may become unsynced with the video. Not that big of an issue though, because a quick pause and rewind 15 seconds fixes the problems.

The menu system is clunky and slow, but it gets the job done.

I have had it lock up on me once or twice, and I had to reset the ps2, and start the movie over, ff'ding back to where it locked up.

The disks are cheap, and a little too light. Some people have complained of constant disk read errors, but a couple of pieces of tape around the center seems to fix the problem. (I haven't had this problem.)

Development on the software has seemed to have stopped. They say they are working on 640x480, and that they are close, but they have been saying that for a year now.

While it seems there are alot of problems with it, it's not really as bad as it seems. For the 50 bucks or whatever I spent on it, I have definately gotten my money's worth. It was the only disk in my ps2 for a few months, and was used every day. With the combo of this software and bittorrent, I'm pretty much using this as a poor man's vcr.
Awesome!

whats geekier? watching movies from your pc or watching them from your couch?
Buy a DVD player you cheap fuck.
beats having to burn them every time you want to watch one.
is there an external on/off switch for the chip, and if so have you tested it with live?

Quote:and I hear even though the new mods allow you to install a toggle to turn the chip on & off, MS can still detect it if you go LIVE with it off.
thats what you HEAR. i want to know from a first hand account, because i heard both
fine - I wouldn't risk it, tho.

goat...ive read that the only things that cause your xbox live to be banned were:

1) a bigger HDD that wasnt locked. if its locked then its no problem

2) a different bios, such as the one that would be found in a mod chip

so if you dont load the mod chips bios, then there is no problem. what i hear you do is, start up the box with the chip switched off, which loads the default xbox bios, thus alowing you to go on LIVE. i also may have heard that some chips have space for multiple BIOS's and with the switch you can select which one gets loaded, so for example, you would put the EVOX BIOS in slot 1 or whatever its called, then a copy of the default xbox BIOS on slot 2. load the evox bios for "backups" and the default for all else.
that might be true, and it probably is since I really haven't read up on it much lately - but I'm paranoid, so I'd just get another box and use it legit for LIVE games. For $150 (or less), it's easier than dealing with a banned LIVE account.

what's not to love? it's a handy little button!
yes, the chip i have lets you toggle the mod chip on or off, so you could play live. you can actually circumvent live entirely and still use the mod chip and play online multiplayer, something i heard about on TSS, i forget the details. check kevinrose.com
