After downloading about 3 different versions, and finally settling on the highest quality one I watched the movie. It definitely is better than 2, but crappier than 1. Like most other people say, the plot is nearly not even there. Though there are a few laughs.

so, your friend burned a copy of a tele-synched movie onto a real DVD disc? Why?

And can you tell me how exactly you plan on cleaning it up? I'm not saying you can't do it, I just don't know how that would be done, and I would like to learn.

he bidn't burn it, he bought it in NYC near his job. 10 bucks a pop for a DVD copy of a movie that is in the theatres now aint too bad.

i'm not sure how to go about cleaning it up. i saved it to my HD and i'm gonna look into digital video editing programs.

Ok, now I see what you are saying. And I still question whether or not it's a VCD vs. a DVD. Either way, with a VCD, the quality would not be that much worse with a movie that was shot on a cam-corder (Tele-Synched).
As far as cleaning it up, I didn't think there was much you could do. I mean, a shitty picture is a shitty picture. You might be able to adjust the brightness and contrast to make the shit look a little steamier, but it's still shit.

Finally, paying $10 for a DVD that is probably a VCD is not that much of a bargain. Especially since you can download the same movie on IRC or Newsgroups for free. Not to mention the fact that WinMX and the like probably have the same thing, too.

It's pretty much the chicken and the egg, though. I mean, do people copy a bootleg onto a computer or do they copy the MPEG onto VHS and DVD?

k1d, i know the difference between a DVD and a VCD. trust me, it's a DVD.
my buddy works on wall street and makes more money than he knows what to do with and he's just as lazy if not lazier than i am. he's too lazy to D/L them and i find it easier to just borrow them from him and make my own copies.

Well now of course you do. You're also going to re-invent the wheel and create your own codec to increase the quality of a tele-synched movie that's been recorded on DVD.
Let me know when you move on to cold fusion. I need a power source for my time machine... :thumbs-up:

All it is is the 2 cd svcd version on a dvd. You could have just downloaded the mpegs and burned them onto your dvd. Check how much space the movie takes. I guarantee it's in the range of 1.4-1.5 gigs.

The only reason I use svcds is because I can watch on a dvd player.
I can't wait till burners are cheaper and the media too so I can just burn it on dvd's. Way easier than swapping discs.

Excuse me for not wanting to pay 350 dollars for a friggin dvd burner when the media is a few dollars. I'd rather use multiple cds that cost a few cents.
