AFTRA is a union, so is SAG.
Although actors are extrememly highly paid, there are a lot of actors out there who are struggling but benefit greatly from being in SAG or AFTRA.
That being said, I work in radio, and although I love it, I still have to pay my dues for a while before I can start positioning myself for a new higher-paying gig.
Radio pays shit.
Which is why I interviewed for a second job in retail.
