Well something has to have an end-state in mind, thereby making events occur or preventing events from occuring in order reach that end-state.
That's the definition of "happens for a reason" under your meaning.
By making that statement you are also saying:
1. That there is a higher power
2. That this higher power is omniscient and omnipotent
3. That this higher power has decided your fate (as well as, I assume, everyone else's on the planet)
4. That this higher power is controlling events in order to make sure that your fate comes to occur.
