I love the shore people vs. benny debate. It's soooooooo ridiculous. The shore towns would all be like Laurence Harbor if nobody visited them. In fact, for many of the shore towns, the visitiors in the summer are the only thing that keeps the place there. Ever been to the boardwalk in the winter?

The boardwalk in the winter is great. No problem parking, no lines, no crowds, better food, cheaper prices.....

But, don't you agree it wouldn't be there without the people visiting in the summer in droves?

I know when I lived in Lakewood, my favorite time to go to Seaside was in early spring and very very late in the summer. When it's cooler, and there are not as many thugged out white kids.

The Crest is great, but if you want to have any fun, you have to go into wildwood, or North Wildwood. There is nothing to do in the Crest, except sit on the beach, wich by the way, is the nicest beach on the whole Jersey Shore. The Crest is a dry town, no bars, or liquor stores. So anyway, back to your question as to where it is in relation to bennies and hair gell, none in the crest, but go five minutes north, you are suronded by them, and like Kid said, sournded by thugged out white kids.

I would venture to guess that it depends on the number of year-round residents, as opposed to seasonal. Obviously, the higher the number of year-round people, the higher the "survival power" of the town. Point Pleasant would be fine, Long Beach Island perhaps would not be.

I would disagree.
Point Pleasant is thriving because it markets itself well. It is pulling in a LOT of dollars from out of town. Those same dollars are what allow so many year round people to live there. But shut down the aquarium the bars the rides and all the other businesses that need outside money......

i've actually never been to pt. pleasant, but for a weekend or two every year i go down to LBI, and the one time i was there in the winter it was pretty dead...it seems like the two months of income spreads over the whole year because the rest of the year there isnt much happening.

Without seeing the exact accountings from the businesses and the town, it would be hard to say. And, many (if not all) of the businesses on the boardwalk are privately owned. Who is to say that they pump money back into the town and not just line their own pockets?

true, but they buy groceries, cars, houses, eat at restaurants etc.
all the money that isn't sitting in investments gets funneled in somewhere.

bennies spend money, the taxes on that money go to the state/local government. i think thats what mr pen is tryin to say.

I would have to agree with that, and your earlier statement about LBI. But I still think even without the boardwalk, Pt. Pleasant would survive.

the town is not going to die out, but it wouldn't be the same. however, I wouldn't say that pt. pleasant has the same tourist draw as sleazeside or wildwood. so, the impact might not be as great there.
