Quote:I'm sick of people erasing the WTC out of movies. Thats the real disgrace.
But isn't also a disgrace to blatantly add it on to the end for some sham sympathy?
Quote:And Denzel was AWESOME in Training Day. He deserved the Oscar for that performance, not just because he was passed over for other deserving performances.
He got that award because he didn't get it for Malcolm X, Russel Crowe deserved it, but they couldn't give it to him because they gave it to him the previous year when he didn't really deserve it.

no, because the movie is about New York, and the WTC is as New York as muggings, immigrants and dirty water dogs.

Do you honestly think that's why he put it there?
No
He put it in to cause people to get a little choked up at the end

They didn't give it to crowe because he's an Asshole. He went off on his spouts on how he is the new king of the industry and how he was guaranteed to win and if he didn't it proved the corruption of the academy.
Denzel shoulda won for malcolm x yes but he didn't win cause of that, that was a decade ago anyway. He already had an oscar for his role in Glory so its not like he'd been snubbed over. It's also not like he lost out for malcolm x to someone underserving.
Sometimes people who should win lose out but atleast they lose out cause its a competitive year.
Scorsese lost out in 1975 to fuckin advilsen for Rocky. While a great movie advilsen had little to do with its greatness, the greatness lie in the story and acting not the directing. The directing was subpar by any means, it was the story, the underdog, the sports movie.

wasnt trying to argue with you gonz. just using goldmans article to illustrate my point. i agree with it 100%.

was great until the last 10 minutes. the ending sucked!
I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.
That's just like our Arpi... except he doesn't wave or anything. He just says mean things to you.

I think it sucks when the academy cant get it right the first time. Like with newman in the hustler instead of color of money.
It's a subpar year so I won't cry if scorsese wins over the others, there's no standout choice.

1. Best Picture: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
2. Actor: Jack Nicholson, About Schmidt. (I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis wins though, since jack already has 3. Just took keep lewis in hollywood).
3. Actress: Salma Hayek, Frida
4. Supporting Actor: Paul Newman, "Road to Perdition"
5. Supporting Actress: Catherine Zeta-Jones, "Chicago."
6. Director: Rob Marshall, "Chicago" (all the hoopla I think scorsese still gets 'snubbed' even though its a subpar effort, he still doesn't get the sympathy oscar).
It takes more skill to pull off a musical this day and age, especially with a cast like that with no formal training.

It probablly should compared to the rest of the movies

I don't think LoTR gets snubbed again, especially in what is once again a fairly subpar year.
The only thing that beast LoTR is Chicago.
But think when was the last time since the golden age have you seen a full scale musical like this? Back when musicals were being cranked out one after another, in the last 20 - 30 years we have seen almost no good ones, let alone great ones.

Moulin Rouge

It's not a gag, Gollum put on a better peformance than all the real actors combined.
