O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Cluster, No problem with your choices; their just not mine. I hate the Braves, the way I hated the Cardinals in mid-80's. I actually like the Yankees, just hate obnoxious fans. (I even own a Yankee jersey, although it is Yogi Berra's, which I consider an exception:) ) Teen, If the bandwagon comment was for me, no I wasn't talking about you. Fans should root for their team no matter how they do. You can be dissapointed in their play, pissed at management or players, but you don't abandon ship. Real fans also should have a clue who their rivals are. IMHO Mets rivals should be Braves and/or Phillies, Yankee fans should be Red Sox and/or Orioles (when they're decent). That's why I was so happy about the return to unbalanced schedule. Fans also go to games when they can, unlike front-runners in Atlanta who don't sellout playoff games. Hockey - Ranger fans can hate Islanders and vice versa because they compete against each other; With the exception of last years series, Mets and Yankees aren't rivals. If you visit the FU threads, you could probably guess who I think are bandwagonners.

Not once did I even think about saying how the yankees were going to lose or maybe this just wasnt their year... Second of all yes Clemens was a little tired in the 5th inning, and a couple of his pitches did get away from him. Do I think he tried to thorw at his head? NO If he wanted to hit him in the head he would have. Besides why would he go after someone in the playoffs after all the new enforcemet rules to prevent such things. While we are on this topic how many Yankees were hit by pitches durring this series? Did you hear anyone crying then? No.. Lastly, why bring up the mets here? We already know they suck, so there is no need to rub salt in the wounds.

Great game, and id much rather watch NL baseball than AL baseball for the simple fact that this game lasted 3 hrs and was 2-0...the yankee game, or any AL game for that matter, lasts 4 hrs at minimum, mostly because they take 45 seconds to a minute between pitches. AL games get boring, even if it is a big game. Objective 2: Root for Braves to exit from playoffs- in process Objective 3: Root for the M's to win the World Series

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | 1st of all, I don't want to hear that any complaints about Clemens has to do with Mets fans; Just check Joe Torre's comments when Clemens was with Blue Jays and hit yanks. And it was wrong when Benitez hit Tino when he was with the Orioles. Clemens is a jerk on the field. Maybe off of the field he is a good guy; I wouldn't know. I have no problem with throwing inside, but be a man about it. First of all, you can brush back without head hunting. Second, don't deny; just say it is part of baseball to pitch inside - end of story. I'd have no problem with him pitching for my team - he is a hall of fame pitcher, but don't defend him when he acts like a pussy.

I met Clemens when he was getting a tour of the Hall of Fame and all he was worried about was getting some more liquor in his drink rather then sign a ball for a little kid. However he was on vacation and I guess sometimes these playes do deserve a little slack, but come on it was a little kid about 10 years old who wound up crying. However a even bigger dick was Reggie Jackson, I witnessed him telling a kid to "fuck off" he wasnt signing any free autographs. quote: I am not sure if it was before the series or after the series started but in a interview with ESPN Clemens did make the comment that he does pitch inside to brush people off the plate and he planned on doing this in this series and if one gets away then it gets away and thats all.

But, you can just tell by someone's personality and the way they talk if they are a pompous asshole or not. Reggie Jackson is one of those guys that is a pompous asshole, and Roger Clemens is not too far behind. Jackson played before my time (i was born in '82) so i didnt have the chance to watch him play much, except on tape with his Mr October crap. He is porbably a big part of the reason why older Mets fans, or any older fans in general hate the yankees. Likewise, he is the reason why some older fans love the yanks. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I did see Reggie, mostly on TV, for A's, Angels, and Yankees. With A's he was a GREAT player. By the time he got to Yankees he was still a great offensive guy, but he could care less about his defense and baserunning. I disagree however as to him being a cause of people hating yankees. 1st of all, Yankees of late 70's had supposedly the worst clubhouse - It was told that they all hated each other. And yet they won, which shows you don't necessarily need a good clubhouse to be winners. (Early 70's A's was supposedly the same way). Yankee fans rooted for the team didn't necessarily like Reggie; if they did it was usually for on field only. Thurman Munson was heart & soul of that team. As for Mets fans hating Yankees, I think it has to do with ages. I grew up in late 60's early 70's and I didn't have any problem with the Yankees. Mets and Yankees were never really good at the same time then. I was always more concerned with other NL east teams. Some older National league fans, who used to be Brooklyn Dodger or NY Giants fans, might hate the Yankees because the Yankees were always beating them in Series, but even then I'd be willing to bet they hated each other worse. I think this negativity mostly began in late 90's, when, for first time, both Mets & Yankees were contenders. for the record, I detest "fair weather" Mets fans and/or anti-yankee aholes as well. I respect any fan who knows his team, roots hard, and sticks with them through thick or thin. Except of course for Atlanta Braves Losers :)

Days of Righetti,Randolph,WinField,Donnie,Barfield,Maas,Sax....and so on. So don't insult me by calling me a bandwagon fan. 2)Yes, when clemens was on the Red Sox and blue Jays he threw at Jeter all the time and even O'neill if i'm not mistaken. Sure I hated him and thought he was a dirty player. But once he comes on your team and starts showing you how good he is, you start to forget all about that. Aside from the Piazza incident, there have been no delibrate beanings? Let me ask you...If he was a Met or on your Favorite team, you wouldn't be rooting and pulling for him to win? or standing up for him? Yes you would, because he's got your uniform on... 3)all this talk about hating Yankees fans not the yankees because we're all classless is crap. We could say the same thing as to met fans. But do we? No, we sit and listen to you faggot met fans bitch and moan about how much you hate the yankees and how there gonna loose. Let me retort calmly. Please read my posts completely if you wish to respond. If you are a devoted Yankee fan, you are not a bandwagoneer, plain and simple; therefore any anti-bandwagoneer comment does not apply to you. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of Yankee bandwagoneers out there now, just as there were Mets bandwagoneers back in 1986. quote: I never said all yankee fans are classless - I work with an uncle and cousin who are big time Yankee fans and are quite the opposite. however, you seem to chose to bash Mets and their fans at all opportunities. I have not bashed the Yankees. My venom is directed at selected few, and after mentioning it, I have done nothing here worse than root against your beloved team. This is hardly UnAmerican. I have praised the Yankees when they deserve it. In the past I have bashed the Mets when they deserved it. quote: 1st of all, I called Clemens a HOF'er and said I would want him on my team. That is the rooting part. I wouldn't, however, defend him if he acted stupid. I called Damien Robinson an asshole for what he did Sunday, and I am a Jets fan. When they played for the Mets I did not support Bobby Bonilla or Vince Colemen. I complained last year that Mike Hampton shouldn't have opened his big mouth last year about Piazza. What's right is right, and wrong is wrong. I responded to someone who brought up Clemens throwing at Tejada. If you don't want to hear people rooting against the Yankees, change the Channel (so to speak) and ignore this thread. Maybe we all just need to go down to the local sports bar and down a few. Enjoy your team, and let everyone else be.
