| Hanger-On Registered: Feb. 01  | Ive been a lurker for the past year and i just had the guts to register last month. It can be very scary in here and i never know what to say. I can only get on during the weekend so by the time i catch up everything i would have contributed to is old and ive seen people get tooled on for dragging up old topics of a topic thats been in active for more than a day or two. I find the board to be very amusing and fun but at the same time the fear of being tooled on keeps me from hitting the reply button.  | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Fairy - lurking longer than the board has existed? :) Seriously, the board did go up in May of 2000. This is called tooling all in good fun. But about your fear of posting, I'd say you probably don't have much to be afraid of. If you've lurked for a long time, then you probably know how it works. The best advice I can give is to make a name for yourself with replies. Don't start new threads, at least not until people recognize you. Hell, I rarely start new threads, and I've been a steady poster since October. Just go with the flow... good replies can get you so much further than trying to make good threads. About dragging things back to the top - I try to only do this with threads that I was active in, and may have more to say. Otherwise I'll try to stick to stuff near the top - catch up on those instead of wasting my time catching up on a discussion that no one cares about anymore. Oh - and hang out here in OT more than GD. We just have more fun. :) Feel free to IM me at anytime, if you have AIM... name's in the profile... | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Oct. 00 | (I posted this in GD a couple of days ago, I thought I'd put it here as well) Ah, Toadie and all the rest of you, never fear, there's a rumor about a new "mentoring" program. It isn't immunity, but it will give you some support. Corpse is right, you either get it and enjoy the Board, or you don't get it, and get your feelings hurt. This Board is fueled by several things. First and foremost it is fueled by SARCASM. Creativity, sense of humor and relationship to THE SHOW, are other important factors. If I read the numbers correctly, I was Board member #3343. So there was a large group of people who had been here longer than this dummy. Back then, attacks and ridicule were more focussed and if you didn't "get it", you were more likely to be treated like the red-headed stepchild. So, I lurked, I read and I learned. Oh, I got some beatings, but you know what? I had fun with them. All of you should too. There is no greater way to become comfortable with this Board than to just try and be yourself and don't take things so personally. IB is right, no one is screaming in your face and hell, we all have people IN REAL LIFE, that love us. So, just have fun. Don't be a retard and remember, lurk, read and learn. If you have any questions, just ask a Board Regular, whose style you like, a question off the Board. Most of us will help you as much as we can. I also cannot log on as much as I love this board because of work. I don't think this makes me any less of a fan. Plus, I always come back(like a puppy dog). You could have 500 posts and be known as a complete loser tool moron. I can name one or two of those, but I'm not going to. So yeah, it's all about how you come across to people.
