I am not gonna do any big thing here i have stated my piece on many occasions.

I will say this besides the fact of not posting stupid things, spamming, asking for status changes and all that shit.

Froy is correct the moment you think post counts make you someone then you are wrong. Dont get me wrong i shoot for a high post count but not for show it makes it funner to cruise the board thats all.

But here is the most important thing you will ever need to know besides the obvious. This is the most important rule to being a good poster.

DO NOT TRY TO TO BE FUNNY!!! do not try to come up with cool posts. It should be natural, you should find a forte that you have and concentrate on it. But never try to come up with stuff. If you dont have anything reply to other topics and learn from them. Be cool never show off or be pompus and just go with the flow. Do not try to be someone or something you are not.

unplanned for like a scaring over-friendly

& gives us wings where we had shoulders

Amen, GS.....if someone decides to re-write the boardaholic rules....that should be #1, with a bullet! Find your comfort zone and stay within it...you'll have more fun that way :)

this is a great thread. i wish it was around when i started a few months ago...but if you just bide your time, think before you post, you get along just fine. i always worry about not starting many threads, but if you have good things to say in a reply, that can be just as helpful to the thread itself.

adopted by Joey BigArms, then he graduated me, so i am no longer an adoptee!!! Thanks to Joey for all the help!

I've lurked on this board since it first started, as well as the few other message boards that attempted to get started around the same time. Even Foundry didn't want to run one at the time because they generally degenerated into nonsensical flame wars. You all have to remember, that the Stern vs. O&A war was hitting its peak last spring, and a good percentage of posts on O&A related message boards were between the fanbase of both shows basically saying..you suck.

I commend you guys for weathering the storm of flame-fests, and building a community that has continued to strive and grow, as well as overcome some tough growth spurts, Scaling up can be rough-stuff.

I'm fairly familiar with message boards as I admin/mod a couple of boards, and lurk on several technical site boards. I even post on the NYRMB as Steph from time to time.

However, A lot of negative posts and attitudes did keep lurkers like myself and others from participating. I've followed the show for the better part of 2+ years, am 30+, married, gainfully employed and am not interested in arguing with a someone half my age that spends half of their day posting who is a bigger fan (ok that's an unfair stereotype). Ugh.

I finally decided to register and begin posting at the beginning of this year. Why? I picked up a PS2, and began posting in the games forum. Its a nice way to blend two interests, gaming and O&A, and is much friendlier than some of the other forums. I doubt at my pace that I will ever reach 1,000 posts, but that really isn't a goal of mine, heck I don't mind being a "hanger-on".

As an "outsider" I feel that in many ways this board can seem pretty cliquish. Over the past six months, it has leaned to being more about the "community" then about the radio program. To continue to thrive this board needs to be more about the show, then about the board itself. A lot of what happens here is for regulars and insiders. At times it can seem exlusionary to someone new, or someone outside your group. With a warm and fuzzy atmophere I'm sure many others will want to get involved.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are put off by the idea of being tagged a "newbie", especially people who have roamed the net, chat, irc, etc. for several years. Granted, they are new to "this" board, but does everyone have to be treated as a second class citizen until they prove themselves to the board l33t. Of course, isn't that always the way =)

The board may also have suffered a set back due to the recent server problems. Some may have been put off by the pop-ups that were running, and some may still need to update their bookmarks and signatures. Perhaps Fory and Opak might want to conduct a little market research and mass mail the users a brief survey about what they like/don't like about the board, and what improvements they would like to see. Never hurts.

With that said, those of you feeling compelled to flame me, go ahead, I've got my teflon underoos on today. In any case, I wish this board continued success and happy times.

Cheers,

Tacks
