if that doesn't work you can always run ScanDisk from msdos

masturbator is right.... and when he says 'open' he doesn't mean just windows. There are alot of other things running that you are probably not even aware of at all times. To ensure that everything is closed do this.... press ctrl alt delete, and close down everything listed that you can by selecting apps one at a time, and hitting 'end task'. You should be able to get down to 'Explorer' without anything else open.

THEN run scandisk. It should zip straight through without any I/O interrupting it.

Hope this helps.. I've had the same problem with norton utilities and this fixed it.

how do you do it in MS-DOS? GO to start, shutdown, restart in MS-DOS mode and type in 'scandisk' in the command line. Starts right up.

that's the problem snowball... if other shit is running, then it will loop, starting from the beginning of the disk every time once it gets interrupted.

Okay finally got scandisk to run all the way through. I was running s/d because i wanted to defrag. my d/d but it told me there were errors on the disk and that i should run s/d.
Now my new problem. I have everything closed except Explorer and I try to defrag but it will not complete, it says something like contents on disk have changed restarting. Any suggestions?

*INSTALL LINUX*

OR,
now that you have it running you are going to need to do the same thing for the defrag. One thing that I would recommend is investing in a program such as Norton Utilities. Windows is so buggy that you need to buy this secondary program to help you complete what should be normal tasks.
If you have a drive partitioning program, which it sounds like you might not, such as Partition Commander, they usually have a great defrag program that runs much faster then the Windows one. It take 5-6 hours to defrag through Windows for me and 1 through programs like Norton or Partition Commander.

Good luck to ya.

No luck.
I have nothing in my tray except the clock. I have no idea what could be writing to my drive.
Everything is closed except for explorer. I would still have this problem with the other programs, Wouldn't I?
I appreciate all the help guys.

And Weinie go FUCK YOURSELF

Yeah, that way you'll have none of the programs that 90% of the world uses. But, you'll be L33T.

pervert, you might want to pick up Norton Utilities, the speed disk is the same thing as defrag, and runs more reliably than defrag. I think it's relatively cheap now, and it will do a lot of other things too. Like fix problems within windows and other programs. It's a solid investment.

Pervert are you doing it off a fresh boot? Oh and kid you can have all the programs with Linux. A lot of the time you can get a Linux version of something or just get an emulator which will be as good or better than Windows.

He's right Kid. They make most of the popular games under Linux now because most run over the Internet and Linux runs as a server now. As for Applications you can always find a free one that does the same thing as a Windows app and do it better ususally. Including things Word and Excel. But I was just making a joke before.

Spend the money and pick up Norton sounds like in the long run it will save you some frustrations

If you are going to run an emulator, why not just run the real thing? You both know god damn well that there is nowhere near the amount of software available for linux as there is for windows. plus, if this kid is having problems in windows, imagine his problems in the cluster fuck that is linux.

I know you said it as a joke, but I always question the motives behind "linux heads" and their hatred for windows. WindowsMe is way more stable than the previous versions of Windows, and at least 4X more compatible with the hardware that is available.

Ok, I'm done with my tyraid. did pervert fix his problem yet?

It's better to run Disk Defrag from SAFE MODE.. as the machine boots hit "F5" to force safe mode then go and run Defrag.. IF you go to system tools then defrag you will see an advaced button you can turn off checking for errors if you want.

Hey kid a lot of the time the emulator will run the program more stable than Windows. Take windows 2000 which is Microsoft's most stable product, it can never match Linux in stability. Never mind the fact that Linux is either very cheap or free. I've done my Linux rant now back to pervert's problem.
