Hey guys, I am looking into leasing myself a new truck over the next month or so. I have narrowed it down to 3 vehicles.

1. 2001 Acura MDX
2. 2002 Ford Explorer
3. 2002 Chevy Tahoe

I need to know if any of you guys have these vehicles or know people who do and tell me what you think would be the best one to get. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Been a while since I looked at the newer models available, but I can vouch for the Explorer. It always rates consistently high in Consumer Reports.

But Corpse, where, oh where, will you ever find another Transformer sticker for your new SUV?

My roommate just bought a new Tahoe.
Rides great, smooth as hell. Very nice acceleration, you can tell that the Chevy block has some serious balls. Huge inside, my roommate is 6'7" 350 lbs, and he fits in it fine.
It sucks on gas though. You're looking at about 15 miles to the gallon. With the 35-or-so gallon tank, you're looking at quite a hit everytime you fill up, which is rather often. But if you have the cash to buy that truck, you probably have the money to put that much gas into it.

Just thought of this. Have you looked at the new Chevy Trail Blazer yet. It's essentially a nicer version of an Blazer/Explorer size SUV, and not as pricey as a Tahoe.

the New Jeep Liberty is a nice car also, something like 215 horsepower, and not too pricey

the acura mdx is really sweet also, a bit too pricey apparently to be getting for my first car but i wouldnt trust myself with a new car anyways.

A couple of my friends have the Explorer Sport, they really like them a lot, the only thing i dont like about the explorer is the shifting is rite where the steering wheel is, id rather have it between the front seats.

hope i helped

I own a 94 explorer. It runs well still with 220,000 miles on it. I did have two...two?? problems with it.

  1. Had to replace the tranz twice.

  2. Had to replace the A/C Compresser twice

See the beauty of a leased vehicle is that I will not make major alterations to the vehicle. My adolecent Stage of stickers and bullshit on my cars is over. BTW you ever gonna get NJ plates on your explorer Buttmunch? Or do you still live in Mass??

I will omit the explorer sport because I want a 4 door truck. I looked at a 2002 explorer limited yesterday and it was badass...but I am leasing the vehicle, and I really want the best SUV for my dollar...

Another thing to consider is that insurance companies are jacking up the prices on SUV's. Also, the gas prices are going to get much worse before they get better.

Hey Corpse,

I am in the Market for a New Truck getting Rid of my 98 Mercury Mountaineer. Though I have enjoyed the truck a bunch I find it's time to move up a bit.

I have narrowed down to a couple trucks but I have to admit after test driving the Acura MDX I have made this my number one choice. The truck is very smooth. I have test driven the Navigator I love that one too but with Gas prices and the amount of driving I am doing now a days I have my reservations.

If you like the feel of being behind an SUV but don't want to guve up some of the performance of a sport car and if you can find one go with the MDX (they are back ordered for up to 3 months). I am debating on the 2001 but I may decide to wait for the 2002 in the Fall.

Good luck

That is a really bad service record. Maybe replace the tranny once if you really beat on it, but twice, is it a standard or auto.

food for thought. I am a car person myself, had an SUV for a while and made the switch. Couldn't afford the gas now either. I went yesterday and was paying $2.04 a gallon, yikes.

Explorers are great but you can't really compare them with the Tahoe or Acura when it comes to size and options. I refuse to by Jap, so I would go with the Tahoe, but you should also consider an Expedition.

Hey Anthony, would you like to make a deal on some Furbys for your girlfriends.

I actually have an Escape. I was looking at the Explorer, but I was able to get the Escape fully loaded for a lot less than the Explorer. It also gets excellent mileage compared to others, I get between 22 and 24 mpg. Since I have a 45 minute commute that was very important.

Also, I think the Acura requires premium fuel.

Ford/Lincoln is coming out with a "baby Navigator" which is essentially going to be an Explorer with the look of a Lincoln LS.

Hey Anthony, would you like to make a deal on some Furbys for your girlfriends.

I would consider the Jeep Liberty if they didn't look like a face in the front. I like Jeep products, but I don't want a grand Cherokee and the liberty is just tough to look at IMO. I actually looked at the Escape KA, and if it fits a big dude like you comfortably, I shouldn't have any problems either. So many friggin choices, but a car is out of the question. I like not having to stand up when I get out of the car, I'd rather slide out of an SUV and be up higher to see everything around me. Everyone I know has a truck or SUV and by far, they are my choice over a car anyday. I really appreciate the feedback though guys. I gotta hit the Ford dealership and test drive the Explorer and Escape. Maybe the Exporer Sport track too...

I own a 96 Ford Explorer XLT loaded blah blah. I love it. Tons of room. I'm 6'6 325. Very comfy and great performance. My brothers GF owns a 2k1 Escape and it quite roomy for its size and performs well. With Gas prices going the way they are you may want to try it.

Just remember to arc the wheel 120 degrees counter clockwise for maximum roll-over effect !

Nice call TFEC. The Avalance is about the same price as the Tahoe.
4 Doors, big engine
And a bed. It has a short bed, like taking the back seat out of a Suburban and ripping the roof off from that point back. It looks pretty sweet.

I have a 2000 Cherokee Sport. I have no complaints about it. It's not as luxurious as the Grand Cherokee, but it definately has a lot more pick-up. It's also alot of fun to drive. I financed mine so it's a bit more expensive than a lease, but Jeeps leasing programs are excellent today. My dad just bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport that he is leasing and the price isn't that bad at all. Good luck in your SUV search!
