I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

To the top with this!

Okay, next problem...the stupid cable and the stupid XP upgrade are complete. Now my PRINTER WON'T PRINT!!!!! Grrrrrr.

I ran the troubleshooter...it's saying my hardware is there, but doesn't recognize the software (either I can't find the disk, or never had one). Went to Compaq's site and it's looking like my printer is not supported by XP. Any ideas or suggestions? Or will I just be going printer shopping this week?

Why, oh why, did I upgrade? I should've just stuck with my shitty Windows 98 first edition and my crappy-ass AOL.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

You need a driver for your printer. More importantly one that supports xp. Go to the web-site of your printer and put in the model # and see if there is a download for your printer that
supports your new operating system. If the manufacturer doesnt allow that, may I suggest Driverguide.com. That site has everything and has helped me hundreds of times. I am an MCSE. If you still have a problem, let me know.

Thanks. I tried (thru the troubleshooter) to uninstall the old driver and install an XP driver. It didn't work. My printer wasn't on the list. I went to the Compaq site and put in my printer model and the operating system. The message that came up was something along the lines of

"If your printer is not on the list, it has not yet been tested for compatibility with Windows XP. Keep checking the site for updates."

I'll try that driverguide.com and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip.

DriverGuide.com has the driver you need. They say your printer is a Lexmark clone and they have a couple of drivers up that work with Win-2k and Win-XP. You say that compaq doesnt have it,(which I didn't check..I trust you)So sign up on driverguide, its free. Once you get your password, log on and go to Driver search 2.0 Beta
link. Once that opens click the link to search by category. Link is on top left side of page. then select printers. Then Compaq, and finally in the search box put in the printer model #IJ 200. You will see the drivers you need. Download them and install. Again if you still require help..let me know. :)
Also Lexmark has on there website, which I have heard will work with your compaq branded printer:(which is a clone of this Lexmark model)
Language: USA English
Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP
Applications: Windows 2000, Windows XP
Owner Name: Lexmark
Data Stream/Profile: Lexmark Printing Solution
Supported Printers: Lexmark 1000 Color Jetprinter, Lexmark 1100 Color Jetprinter
You can downlad this at lexmark.com. Put in
1000 / 1100 in the support search for drivers.

Albadabing, I tried the driver.com driver, but I'm guessing I did something wrong (hmm, imagine that! This whole process has been a comedy of errors). I'm pretty aggravated right now, so I'll start fresh tomorrow with the Lexmark info. Thanks again.

On another tangent...think I'd be getting this much help with my old Pluto sig? LOL

Ok, hopefully for Sweet, Albadabing is correct that the Lexmark 1000 / 1100 will work.

I needed to put an end to this lovefest with Sweet's sig pic so I called Compaq. They said that the Compaq IJ200 had a hardware incompatibility with NT OSes inclding Windows 2000 amd Windows XP. The printer is 4 1/2 years old and shipped with drivers for 95, as well as had it's drivers updated for 98 and ME. This makes me doubt that the Lexmark drivers will work, but it can't hurt to try.

If you are going to try one of those drivers choose the Windows 2000 driver. Windows 2000 and XP are both NT. The 98 driver will would be better suited for 95, 98, and ME.
