| Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | Here's hoping this is a short thread. Like last year, the Road goes through Oakland. Unlike last year, my uncle can't get me Yankee Stadium tix to root for my A's. :( I disagree somewhat with the A's rotation - you gotta throw lefties 3 out of 5, so Hudson, the true ace can't start Game 1. But I'd switch Mulder and Zito - Mulder had a great year, but Zito can be more dominating, and he has much better results on the road and against the Yanks. The trash talk will continue, but here's a tidbit to brighten my day: September AL Player of the Month was Eric Chavez, Pitcher was Barry Zito. This is the first time in the 23-year history of the awards that one team has won both in back-to-back months. (August: Jermaine Dye and Zito.) Plus Mulder was July Pitcher of the Month. Good luck to the Yankees, they'll need it :)  "I enjoy the Froy" | ||||

I have tickets to game one of the ALDS at the Stadium (if I get out of having to go to class) as well as game one of the ALCS and the World Series at the Stadium. I have a feeling the Yanks will do it in 5 just like they did last year...its more exciting that way anyhow. :) LETS GO YANKS! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | This postseason is going to be a hell of a dogfight. Hardest one yet. To be honest, the A's scare me more than the Mariners. If the Yankees can beat the A's I defintely think they can beat the Mariners. My prediction for the first round is Yankees in 5 and Mariners in 4. Whoever, gets to the World Series I think will have a cakewalk against whomever comes from the national League. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | the three best teams in the majors are most definately in the AL, so i think whoever wins the pennant will win the Series. the A's are the hottest team in baseball since the all-star break, even better than the Mariners. i think whoever wins the Yanks, A's series will win it all. hopefully, it will be the Yanks. all i know is that we're in for a hell of a series. | ||||

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't have it down the canyon, just change the rout in the beginning. I can't see anywhere else it can be in the city. I don't think that the World Series will be a cake walk, per say. But it will be an easier team than any of the AL teams. The pitching is so much better in the AL than the NL.  | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Yes Roger. Nicey Nice. October 10, 2001 -- The tone for the ALDS between the Yankees and A's was set yesterday by Roger Clemens and Art Howe. Clemens warned the A's not to crowd the plate and the A's manager led with his chin by saying the Yankees need a top-shelf performance to beat his club. "If I feel somebody is covering both sides of the plate, this is a different time of the year," said Clemens, the Yankees' starter for tonight's Game 1 at Yankee Stadium. "This isn't the regular season. I know why I am here and I know what I need to do. We will just see what happens." As for Howe, he challenged the Yankees like no other manager has in October. "We expect to have a good postseason, that's the bottom line," Howe said. "We have played great the whole second half, we don't anticipate doing anything differently. It's going to take a great series from the Yankees to have a shot to beat us." A's starter Mark Mulder won't back down if there is a need to move a Yankee off the plate, either to get an out or react to Clemens dusting the A's. "You got to pitch inside to be successful," Mulder said. "If something like that happens, we will see how the game goes." While many believe the A's time has arrived when the Yankees appear to be as vulnerable as they have been in years, the series is still rated a toss-up in Las Vegas. This, despite the fact the wild card-winning A's had seven more victories than the Yankees and took six of nine games between the teams in the regular season. Of course, the players could care less what Vegas believes, or what is written and said. All the A's believe is they almost eliminated the Yankees in the first round a year ago and are primed to do it this time. "We came very close to knocking the Yankees off last year and we feel we are a better team this year than we were a year ago," Howe said. "So, hopefully the experience factor is going to be the difference this year." Joe Torre agrees the A's are improved. He points to the acquisition of right fielder Jermaine Dye, who added right-handed muscle to the belly of the lineup and Mulder, who wasn't part of the A's playoff rotation last October due to injury. Dye hit .297 with 13 homers and 59 RBIs in 61 games for the A's. Mulder led the AL with 21 wins. Dye's playmates include AL MVP candidate Jason Giambi, Eric Chavez, Johnny Damon and Miguel Tejada. Giambi was second in batting average (.342), sixth in homers (38), seventh in RBIs (120), first in slugging percentage (.660) and tops in on-base percentage (.477). And he is impressed with Clemens, against whom he is batting .302 (13-for-43) with no homers and three RBIs. "Rocket is Rocket," said Giambi, who will be a free agent this offseason. "Every game he has the potential to pitch a no-hitter and everybody knows it. But that's the exciting part of the game." Mulder was 1-1 against the Yankees and Clemens was 1-0 versus the A's. Clemens, who went 20-3 during the regular season, is 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 16 postseason starts. Interestingly, he has pitched Game 1 of a series four times and is 0-2. Mulder, 24, is making his first post-season start. "Pitching is the most important thing," Jorge Posada said. "We have good pitching here and they have good pitching. It will come down to who makes the right pitches and who gets out of jams." Paul O'Neill has heard all the talk. Now he welcomes the chance to duke it out on the field. "We have all the respect in the world for them, but we know what we have done," the Yankees' DH said. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | Well Clemens did choke but u cant play hurt if its a hamstring injury. I know form being a pitcher that if ur hamstring is bothering u, its not easy to jus suck it and play through it. U cant blame him for the loss. A game isnt just won by pitching, u need offense too. There was little of that last nite. Hopefully theyll do better tonite.
