Well, so far I'm doing ok in my new "Anyone but the Flyers" rooting interests.

Hopefully their "high powered offense" will lead to Clarke's dismissal, although that is too much to hope for.

And besides, where the hell were you FB and Menino when the Isles were getting anally raped by the refs in Toronto, Game 2 especially

I didnt say the call cost Toronto the game. Who knows what would have happened. The Isles may have scored on the Power Play or later in OT. And Toronto lost the game because Joseph played like shit. The Leafs did not lose this game because of the ref, eventhough I strongly disagree with that penalty shot call.

However, the Isles did not lose Game 2 because of the refs. Its not the refs fault that the Islanders couldnt score a goal, or that Yashin cant hit an empty net 30 seconds into the game.

Oh well, so much for the Canucks' dream, eh? It was fun while it lasted.

I agree with this. This is why I didn't start complaining on this thread and stuff when the Isles lost Game 2. But, my point was that the refs were giving the Leafs a break in Game 2, so if there was a break given to the Isles in Game 4, it evens stuff out. Especially when you consider earlier in the game, Kvasha got a tripping penalty when the guy TRIPPED OVER THE FUCKING NET! You don't think we were due for a break after THAT?

Besides, I don't think it was that hideous a call to begin with. By rule, it is definitely a penalty shot, BUT you are right in that usually the refs are too big a bunch of pussies to call it a penalty shot and instead usually just give a two minute penalty when it's that late in a playoff game. So, though my first reaction was, "That should be a penalty shot!", I was still shocked when the ref called it, cuz they NEVER call it. Besides, I think you'd agree, FB, given the Isles' good special teams and the percentages (especially this season) of penalty shots actually MADE, the fact is the Leafs probablt GOT A BREAK that it was called a penalty shot and not a two minute penalty. So, I really don't know where the reason to complain is.

I didn't watch the Bruins v Habs game, but I saw the sportcenter replay of the forearm McLaren laid on Zednik (who had scored the 2 Montreal goals). It was the most vicious open ice hit I can remember in quite a while.

This is a series I thought had the most juice - 2 original 6 teams, Koiviu coming back and leading Canadians to winning streak down the stretch. Now it may turn up another notch. Reportedly the Canadian coach pointed to Joe Thornton after the incident. I hope ESPN televises the next match.

Yea, this series is gonna get REALLY nasty now.

quote:

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien didn't buy McLaren's explanation, and threatened retaliation against the Bruins' top players. Game 5 is Saturday at Boston.
"If they try to go after our best players ... we have no choice -- we'll go after theirs," Therrien said.
........
When asked if his threat will escalate the violence, Therrien said: "I don't care. This is what they did and this is what we're going to do."

If you saw replays of Therrien after the hit, you saw him pointing to a Boston player and mouthing very clearly, "You're going down. You're going down."

For those people who think that Montreal isn't serious about getting some major league revenge:

quote:

On Friday, the Canadiens called in some muscle from their AHL affiliate in Quebec City. Matt O'Dette, a 6-foot-5, 221-pound defenseman, had 136 penalty minutes, along with seven goals and an assist, in 48 games with the Citadelles this season.

Can somebody hand Joe Michelleti a crying towel to release his tears. Anybody watching this Islander game will know, he hasnt stopped whining about Toronto's rough play the whole game. Just shut up and call the game.

Im sure if Cairns had a hit from behind on Kaberle he wouldnt be crying about it for 2 periods.

He mentions how he's sick of Quinn's whining, well what about Milbury??

Uhhh, I wish ESPN 2 wasnt blacked out. But the Isles getting their ass kicked on the scoreboard and in body count, makes me happy.

Has their been a bigger dissapointment tha the Flyers this year? Thought to be the team that would roll over the East, and be the only team to challenge Detroit from the East, the Flyers have been eliminated in 5 games by 7th seeded Ottawa, in which during the series, the Flyers only managed to score 2 goals, and only 1 in regulation (T - NHL Playoff Record)

Who thought this? The Flyers always do shit in the playoffs, this year they took it to the next level.

As long as Asshole Bobby Clarke is at the helm they will always be shit.

Every sporting publication i read had either the Flyers or Capital winning the east this year, and many more votes went to the Flyers than the Capitals. Both teams are just severe dissappointments.

BTW, Sports Illustrated shout just cease publication. Do they make any sense anymore?

You wanna know why hockey is the #4 sport in America? See Thursday night with McLaren and Zednick and last night with Roberts and Kenny Johnnson. I'm a big hockey fan, though I will admit it's my third fav sport behind baseball and football respectively, but geez, what the hell, man? I like violence as much as the next guy, but I can do with it on action movies and wrestling, where I know it's all fake in the movie or they're at least trying to protect each other in wrestling. In hockey, lives are trying to be ruined for God's sake. Did the players learn NOTHING from Domi last year? The NHL better do something to both these clowns. But they won't cuz they never do. This fucking sport, man. Everytime they reach new heights like a 4 OT thriller in the Stanley Cup Finals or games like Wednesday night in both New York and Carolina, they go and make asses of themselves time and time again. And Gary Bettman wonders why people don't watch.

The fucking Olympics had none of this bush league bullshit going on, and how exciting was that? I don't want fighting, where they are at least even in being able to defend themselves, to be gone, but you need to do something about this cheap stuff.

And Francine Banger, considering the Isles got their ass kicked, what the fuck else do you want Joe Michiletti to talk about? The game? The game was a fucking boring ass joke. As an announcer for these types of games, you gotta talk about something enthralling, and the only real enthralling story for this game was the cheap hit. And you must have watched like 2 Isle games this year, cuz Michiletti is far from a homer. Hockey is the one sport in this town where I've noticed the home team TV announcers for all three teams, outside maybe for Chico in the Devil games, aren't biased (baseball announcers around here for both sides are atrocious in their homer-ness, btw).

On a side note, I'd love to see how you'd react if Gary Roberts did that cheap stuff to Brian Leetch. Yet, Theo Fleury does this stuff all the time and I'm sure you defend him like your defending Pat "for 20 years my teams have all been thugs dating back to the Flyers in the '70s" Quinn's boys.

Never mentioned Joe Michelleti being a homer so read it again.

He was whining about that play from the end of the 1st period until the end. And considering it didnt become a blowout until late 2nd period, early 3rd, I would say considering it was game 5 of the 1st Round, he might have wanted to concentrate on the game which was 2-1 until midway 2nd period.

I also never said it wasnt a dirty hit or that he shouldnt have gotten a game misconduct. But He comes out as a cry baby crying over it for 2 periods, get over it and move on.

As far as the Ranger comparisons, Ive come down on Fleury numerous times for his nonsensical tantics on the ice. I blasted Low for not benching him when he got 2 penalties in the first 5 minutes of the last Islander game.

And if Leetch got hit by Roberts like that, Id be upset, but Im not a color commentator, where my job is to commentate on the game not one play thats been over and done with.

And it wasnt like it was Dale Hunter, Tie Domi, or Marty McSorley either.

Fair enough points, FB and I understand if you thought Michiletti got annoying, but the impression I got from your post is that you thought he was defending the Isles first and worrying about analyzing the game second, ESPECIALLY with the Cairns comment. I mean, by making that comment, I don't think I'm being too overanalyzing by saying you implied he was a homer. I just hope Roberts gets suspended for the rest of the playoffs and I hope even more so that a guy like Cairns or Webb doesn't do something equally as classless or idiotic tomorrow in retaliation. The best revenge is beating the Leafs these next two games.

While I think we'll be able to beat them tomorrow cuz the team will be hyped with the crowd, looking for revenge for the hits on Jonnson and Peca, and backs against the wall all going in their favor, I'm not too high on a game 7 in Toronto if it got there. Sadly, while my heart says Isles in seven, my head right now is saying Leafs in 7, but here's hoping the Isles make me wrong. And no, Leafs in six would NOT prove me wrong, technically.

Oh yeah, and nice to see my pick to go all the way (the Devils) flushed out in the first round. Hey, um, Osgood hasn't looked real sharp in this series, can we have Weekes back?

In closing, a question, cuz I get confused with this every year, since the Hurricanes won the division but had the second least amount of points in the conference to Montreal, and they re-seed after the first round, I'm wondering do the Canes automatically become the lowest seed in the second round (or third seed if Montreal wins their series, which I think they will now)? Or does the fact that they won the division mean they still get preference over non-division winners, making them the second seed if the Bruins come back and beat Montreal, or have HOME ICE FUCKING ADVANTAGE for the rest of the Eastern conference playoffs if Montreal closes them out? Just wondering.

Actually no. You see those three teams would be in a "Well, we showed some guts this season at least (though the Flyers were gutless in the playoffs, but you get the point)" position while the Rangers will be in a "Well, we sure showed absolutely no guts whatsoever this season" position, unless you call winning a plethora of games when there was no pressure on you whatsoever since you were already done "guts." Just wanted to correct you. They might all be on the same golf course, though :-D

All I have to say to Flyer fans is
"Bye Bye" :)

Next on my hit list is Bruins.
(I hold more animosity to the team that stole Brad Park & Jean Ratelle than to that team on the island).

Go Habs !!

FWIW, I thought the hit on Pecca worse than hit on Jonsson.

Carolina will remain the #3 seed, and if Boston gets eliminated by Montreal, then yes indeed Carolina will have Home Ice Advantage throughout the East Playoffs and will play Montreal in the 2nd round. What a fun series that will be.

Another interesting thing is that if the East series end with the way they are looking to end right now. 3/4ths of the East Final Four will be made up of Canadian teams, Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal.

NHL like that for Canada, but American TV ratings are going to take a huge hit in the East, with teams like the Devils, Flyers, and possibly Bruins all going out in the First Round.

You know, the Islander game is an hour and a half away and the NHL STILL hasn't decided anything on Tucker or Roberts? What a crock of shit. Colin Campbell is doing just as half assed a job now as he did behind the bench at the Garden I see. Wow. Peca is out for six fucking months for God's sake, he's the god damned captain, and it was a cheap shot and they can't even just suspend him for this ONE game and then decide on how long the suspensions will be after the game like they did with that punk McLaren? Holy fucking shit. Hockey: What a Fucking Joke. And people wonder why the highest rated Stanley Cup Final game on ABC has had trouble stating out of the bottom 10 shows in the ratings the past few years. Just pathetic.

They have an hour or so to prove they are a credible league from where I sit. It's a shame, too, cuz if the Tie Domis and Darcy Tuckers of the world weren't around, it'd be the most beautiful sport out there. The excitement of a well played clean hockey game is the only thing that keeps me hooked, but if we're gonna get NONE of it in the playoffs on just about every series, why bother?

And on a side note, so far, the only word on McLaren is he's out for the rest of the first round. Whoop dee fucking doo. What is there to wonder about? Suspend that asshole for the rest of the playoffs and at least 10 games next year to send a message. Infact, they should do what the NBA (who I despise as the single most boring sport on the planet outside of soccer) did to Sprewell and suspend him for a whole year. He did more to harm a human life than that guy did. WHAT IS THE FUCKING DEAL WITH THIS LEAGUE?

Yes. Yes I did. Well then, the NHL has officially lost all credibility.

You know what's fucked up? Cairns or Webb is gonna do something equally stupid tonight to one of the two, or both, for revenge, they'll be both out for the year from the hits and, knowing our luck, Bettman will actually do the right thing THIS time and suspend THEM for a year. Ugh.

Even though I hate the Isles, I have to say Tucker should have been suspended. His reaction after the hit, and the way he skated away with a smerk on his face said it all. I hate dirty players like Domi, and Tucker. Look on the bright side everyone, he did the Rangers a favor :-D
