Right. That's why the Arab nations go out of their way to admonish Al Aqsa, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and the Palestinian Liberation Organization each time one of them claims responsibility for blowing up their "Zionist Enemy" in Israel, huh? Rolleyes

Yep, those nations sure do hate Islamic extremists launching terror attacks on Western civilizations, don't they?

And the rest of the world doesn't exactly go rushing to Israel's defense (other than the U.S., of course), despite the fact that this is a country that lives under constant fear of terrorist attacks.

Again Grump, I say: The world watched what happened on 9/11, I do not believe a country in the world would've put up a protest to the US bombing the shit out of them in retaliation.

Quite a few countries would have put up a major protest. It's what they do.

Bullshit.

The entire world saw Sept. 11.

The entire world knows the power of the US.

Irrelevant, if the world saw that tragedy in any country, they would understand, if not agree with, the repercussions dealt to those responsible.

answering your questions:

How do you figure bullshit?

The entire world see's terrorist acts in Isreal once a week.

The entire world knows Isreal has the power to wipe out the Palistines.

It's not irrelivent, what happened on 9/11 happens in Isreal, with the car and bus bombs and shit all the time, and the whole world doesn't understand it.

9-11 flip side - The Brain - 09-12-2003

And, let us just make this perfectly clear:

Yesterday (09/11), as we mourned the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon, and the crash in Pa, Yasser Arafat was holding an impromptu press conference announcing he will fight Israel's attempts to send him into exile-- a decision made because he was unwilling to surrender military control to Abu Abbas (the previous "Prime Minister" of Palestine), which Abbas would have needed to disband Hamas, the group mostly doing the attacks on Israel.

To further explain: Arafat is to Hamas what Osama bin Laden is to Al-Qaeda. No one in Hamas so much as sneezes without Arafat's approval.

Now, try to imagine if Osama bin Laden were sitting in a building in Newark, and we couldn't go in and get his ass? Israel has the same problem. Their main enemy is sitting right there in Ramallah, in plain fucking sight, yet they cannot send him to exile, they can't assassinate him, they can't touch him, period.

Why? 'Cause the Palestinians don't want him gone. Other Arab nations don't want him gone. They don't want any "road map of peace" unless it puts a big red X where Israel's name is, and write Palestine in its place.

They hate Israel. They hate Israel's allies.

And guess who Israel's biggest ally just happens to be?

Yes, we were attacked two years ago (and in 1993, and several other times overseas) for many reasons. They hate our freedom; they hate our culture; they hate our capitalistic society. But most of all, they hate the fact that because we're around, they can't wipe the Jewish people off the face of the planet without us turning their deserts into a nuclear wasteland.

Jews cause problems.

Don't remind me. In laws can be such a pain in the ass.

Quote:What's my town doing you ask? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. They had a memorial service last year. This year it's \"Back To School Night\". Something is way wrong with that.

Not necessarily. Some people may prefer to have quiet reflection as opposed to a large public gathering. I chose not to be involved in any memorials yesterday, moreso because not a day goes by that I don't think about it, and have my own personal memorial. At work we have a poster of all 343 members of FDNY who were killed, and at least once a day or every few days, I tap my finger on the picture of one of six my friends who was killed. On a side note, I think having the children who lost a parent reading out the names of the lost at the Pit was rather disgraceful. Let the kids be kids and not have to go thru all of this again.

Think of it this way, we have to move on, but at the same time, never forget and ensure it doesn't happen again. Americans are tough people. When we get hurt, we pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and we keep going.

Still Riding, Never Forgotten, Chaplain Mychal Judge, Captain Terry Hatton, Lt. Dennis Mojica, Firefighters Joe Angelini, Bill Henry, Gerry Nevins, and Davey Weiss, FDNY Rescue Company 1.

Jimmy, I see what you're saying, but I still think they could have thought a little about it and NOT scheduled Back to School Night. It could've been done Wednesday, or even next week.

Grumpy, Your points are why I think the war on terror will be as effective as the war on drugs.

Bush talked a mighty game.

But the reality is he didn't feel that we were up to really addressing the problem,
so instead he had us wave flags and amused us by beating up on a man many in his administration had already put a bullseye on.

Two years after the fact.......
and I don't think we are any safer,
and I don't think we got any "bang for the buck" on the billions we have spent fighting terror.

2/3 of the Al-Qaeda leadership have been either killed or captured, and Osama bin Laden is hiding in a 40-square mile area of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Saddam Hussein is hiding, and his two sons are dead.

There are almost constant protests occurring in Iran against the resident regime there.

Change is coming, and that was the main reason for the war on terror. Yes, it's also to kick someone's ass who done us wrong, but it's also to institute change in those extremist regions so that this sort of shit won't ever happen again.

Of course it will be slower than we want-- we're so used to everything happening rapidly around here. It won't be easy bringing a religion and people with 8th-Century ideals kicking and screaming into a 21st-Century world.

Think about why after the Hussein regime collapsed, militants poured in across the borders and started a shooting gallery on our troops. You know what would occur if they had left us to do our work, stabilize the country... and instilled democracy? This is a region of monarchies and theocratic dictatorships; democracy of any form would be a powder keg that destroys all of them.

what percentage of the billions spent did this?

I would submit it's the most important thing you mentioned,
and the least expensive,
and perhaps had we not looked so hard toward Iraq, a greater success would have been had.
