Whats Left? - BITENY - 12-14-2003 Well, we'll just have to wait & see. Whats Left? - The Man - 12-15-2003 Oh, lovely uneducated Yankee fans. You replace Clemens, Johnson, and Pettite with Brown, Sheffield and Vazquez and you are complaining. There is no debate that each three additions are better than the people they are replacing. Fools. Whats Left? - GreasyItalianPrincess - 12-15-2003 vasquez is not a big game pitcher...sheff and brown are injury-prone. Nick Johnson will be an all-star..watch and see. and this all comes from a met fan. Whats Left? - JimmyBlueEyes - 12-15-2003 I'd take Pettitte over Brown anyday, and that's from another Met fan Whats Left? - Black Lazerus - 12-15-2003 So are you guys switching over? Whats Left? - JimmyBlueEyes - 12-15-2003 No chance, but I am silently rejoicing at the trainwreck that has become the Yankee post season Whats Left? - The Brain - 12-15-2003 Quote:Originally posted by SOSilly SO... don't you know Steinbrenner's mentality better than that? If they are all All-Stars in five years, he will woo them back, and show them all more respect the second time around then he has done now. Believe me, had Pettitte been pitching in Houston the past nine years, and just became a free agent, Steinbrenner would have wined and dined him and whispered sweet nothings in his ear. The Boss always covets someone else's players more than his own, and the Yanks' farm system really has just become trade bait. Think about it. We refer all the time to the "core" of the team: Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Pettitte, and Posada. But that was 1996 (and Posada became the full-time catcher in 1997). There hasn't been another kid from the Yanks' minor-league club to come up and win a full-time position yet. Nick Johnson would have done it, except Steinbrenner coveted Giambi to replace Tino Martinez. I don't fault the "win now" mentality. Baseball is a business, and success on the field is only true success if yours is the last team standing. What I do fault is the way he treats his own. These guys are all playing for the same goal, to help the team win. Let them do their jobs, for crying out loud, without always having to look over their shoulders for the next fly-by night acquisition to take their place.
