we all know there are going to be protestors for the World Economic Forum tomorrow and do you really care? Do you think they're protesting worthy things? Would you honestly not make the extra money by abusing Paco in Columbia?

I guarantee that the people who protest this have absolutely no understanding of economics on either a mirco or macro level.

We pay Paco the 30 cents a day because he is willing to work for that, because it is a better alternative than the 15 cents he would make doing something else. He may not make as much as an American worker, but if he did, the company would never move it's operating facilities out of the US to begin with, and then he'd be fucked because he'd have no choice and would be stuck making 15 cents a day.

Maybe if these fucking people went and did something productive, we wouldn't have to waste money on extra security, police, and the other costs of dealing with them. That would help the economy a lot more than their protests.

On second thought, does anyone remember that being a Dennis Miller rant? LMDFGHJKLO

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

They're fighting the wrong people. If they're so pissed about human rights, go down to wherever these people are being oppressed and protest their government. It isn't the fault of American corporations that these people have no rights.

I do, it was hysterical how he brought up them stopping traffic causing more pollution while claiming to care about the environment.

For once i agree with you on something. And you know what, do half of these protestors even know what the fuck they are protesting against? Some are there just to say "man, I did something for the enivronment". Fucking hippie bastards!

Dont get me wrong I beleive in freedom of speech. But dont block traffic, threaten to fire bomb the capitalistic companies you loathe (starbucks and mcdonalds are potential targets), or even fucking try to disrupt a conference with several heads of state. And if they dont comply, i fully encourage the NYPD to beat the ever living crap out of them!

Its bad enough commuters through midtown have to deal with this shit, but if they try another seattle, they are in for a very rude awakening.

Personally I wish they all go away. We've been through enough, we dont need your shit.

If I need to take matters in my own hands, can I set a party to go around town and paintball these ass-Fs? Anyone wanna join me?

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but today there appears to have been 10000 more cops on the streets than usual...I don't even want to go into the city tomorrow....

Froy, you nailed it right on the head. These people do have no idea what they are talking about, nor do they understand the situation that they are fighting against. Sometimes things are unfair, but it is better for it to be unfair for some then to try and make it fair for all. Anyone remember Communism??? Doesn't work. I am a college student right now, and I can say from being on campus that everyone wants to feel important. They stand next to issues that make no sense, so they have a sense of self worth. Of course, these people would never just walk out of their homes and help the people in their neighborhood. Fuck 'em.

I work only a block away from the Waldorf Astoria where this conference is, and it was already a nightmare at 7am this morning. About 10 cops every 50 feet. Basically everything is shutdown for pedestrians from 47th-52nd and from Madison to 3rd Avenue.

If these tree hugging faggots do anything, I hope the police sodomize them with broomstick handles.

Now, you can go and tell me off all you want, but I would like to semi-defend the protesters.

True, many of these folk don't know their as from their elbow when it comes to finance, and alot of them have been forced to buy into the notion of true anarchism, which, as we have seen in Spain, Russia, numerous governments across the globe during the 20th century, doesn't work, and certainly won't battle terrorists in today's world. But I believe that many of the people have shown their support for this crazy talk fo anarchism and creating a new world order because its the only way to get some of their real concerns across, such as globalization, environmental concerns, etc. These happend to be some real concerns to myself, and I believe that our corporate giants all over the world are to blame.

Globalization takes away what is unique in every culture and replaces it with what is considered to be pure American consumer values. Why else do people protest the new McDonalds that goes up in China or in Russia, its not because their Big Macs suck(which they do), its because countires all over the world do not want to lay down and take it in the ass from the Americans just so that we can become richer off another society. We, as Americans, had that done to us a very long time ago by Great Britain, and we fought for our independance. Now, the UK and ourselves are united by the one thing that unites everyone: money. And corporations are exploiting people all over the world, taking away any sense of identity, just to makes a buck. And it is ourselves that allow for this degradtion to continue when we buy merchandise from the corporations.

You know, Id like to walk down my stret to a book store that isnt a fucking Borders. I'd like to buy my italian food from somewhere other than Olive Garden. Id like to go to amusement parks that arent owned by Disney or a beer company. We have been losing our right to free enterprise more and more as corporations create new solutions to everyday living. Dont need to go anywhere else for furniture except Ikea. Need video games? Best Buy. Need clothes? Gap, Old Navy, we even have a place for the rich folk to engage in mass consumer spending, A&F. 50 bucks for a pair of boxers, jesus fucking Christ.

Now Im sorry that your fucking lives are ruined for a few days because these people believe in something. Im sorry that you have to find a different fucking route to work today. Not all of them are tree hugging hippies. Many of them are just like you, except these people actually want to change the world , and tey beiliev that government cannot do that, so they must tell the corporate giants themselves. I know that all you guys just wanna go on with your lives, but why cant you let some Americans and world citizens gather in protest, which IS A FUCKING AMERICAN RIGHT, and let them express thier ideas. Its fucking sad that you people are closed minded to just say,
quote:

i fully encourage the NYPD to beat the ever living crap out of them

just because you dont want them in your backyard. These are your fellow citizens. You guys talk about being Americans???? You waive your flags around saying how proud you are? These guys are trying to stand up for what they believe in, and you go and bash them. You act like fucking Fascists.

quote:

they know the judicial system in this country is a joke and that even if they are imprisoned they will have rights...they would never risk their own asses in a third world country's jail....kinda shows you just how "dedicated" to the cause they are.

Actaully, you never hear of the mnay people who do go to other countries to risk their own ass.

There are people who believe that strongly in the cause of globalization, just as their are those who believe in our great country. What about Daniel Pearl? He went over to Pakistan, and now his life is in danger because he simply wanted to report what was going on in Pakistan.

quote:

Froy said: They're fighting the wrong people. If they're so pissed about human rights, go down to wherever these people are being oppressed and protest their government. It isn't the fault of American corporations that these people have no rights.

Many people all over the wolrd and in this counrty have a great deal of evidence that it is the corporations fault. There is a very strong theory that leads many to believe that corporations have already taken control of the world's power, and that the US government is simply there to serve big business.

I am truely sorry for this long rant, and I know Im gonna be viewed as an asshole and a deek for my views, but I fel I am a very intelligent perosn, and have very strong ideas, and I really think its sad that all ya'll have never felt as passionate for anything as these people do.

Oh yeah, what about this new thing? In response to the NYPD enforcing a 19th century law prohibiting masks.....

quote:

In response to the NYPD's ridiculous ban on anonymous freedom of expression, NYC anarchists call on all anti-capitalists to carry gas masks, balaclavas, bandannas, and hoods at the upcoming anti-WEF mobilization. While we plan to respect the green (aka legal and nonconfrontational) nature of The Another World Coalition's march, we will not tolerate an assult on any individual's liberty! If law enforcement thugs have the hubris to actually try and enforce this unconstitutional law over the weekend, hundreds of anti-authoritarians will don masks in defiance!

TW, amen to that man!!! I work in the same area of the city, and as if it isn't bad enough on a normal day to walk around midtown, this is creating a logistical effin nightmare. Half the streets are closed. The passage way through GCT is closed....there are 50 cops on every corner....its totally insane!

I think there is a difference between a journalist and a protestor. Daniel Pearl was doing his job...protestors try to change the system through different means. If Daniel Pearl wanted to change anything as a result of his visit, he hoped to do it through his words by more traditional means. To compare protestors who are ready for and want some violence (they have advocated property damage because property "has no feelings") to a journalist is nonsensical in my book.
