Hopefully tonight's game will not get rained out because I have tickets to tonight's game. It's going to be a long ass game with Trachsel pitching. As for Clemens, I hope Estes has the guts to throw at his head and knock Clemens the fuck out. Clemens was such a pussy for not pitching at Shea last year. If he was a REAL man, he would have done his job and gone out there and pitch. Instead he hides behind Joe Torre and gets Torre to change the rotation just for him. I have no respect for Clemens. He's a punk that like to throw at star players heads.

Since you say the same crap in more than one thread, I'll repeat my retort here.

JohnSlack, self proclaimed baseball expert:
quote:

HITTING A PITCHER. A NO-NO.

Joe Morgan, Hall of Fame baseball player:

quote:

There will be no closure to the situation until Clemens bats and the Mets have an opportunity to retaliate ....
Like Clemens, Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale were intimidators on the mound. At the same time, they stood at the plate and took their lumps -- and that is the way it should be. Gibson was hit eight times in his career and Drysdale five times.

Dusty Baker, 19 year major leaguer and curent manager of Giants

quote:

"You can be bold in (the American) League and get away with it. It's different in our league where you have to hit. Not to take anything away from Roger, but in the National League he might not be ... what's his nickname? The Rocket? In our league he might be Roger the Dodger."

Let's see: who should know more about baseball protocol - someone who posts on O&A.com who can't go a post without questioning people's sexuality, or 2 long time major league former players?

Why was Gibson hit 6 times? I don't know, Lets ask Tim McCarver. Notice that no major leaguer has said pitchers are off limits.

Don't let facts get in the way of your argument.

2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (modified version)(You gotta try and believe....)
1.Hate the Braves with PASSION and extreme prejudice
1a. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play
2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
3a.Have team understand it is OK to get a hit with runners on base.
4. Mets win World Series (after divine intervention)

I won't go that far. Clemens is no doubt a great player, and I don't really think he is "afraid". But he does act like a jerk, and I have no problem rooting for him to get a rotator cuff injury.

And don't give me the "if he was on your team you'd root for him" crap. When Phil Esposito came to the Rangers I hated him just as much as before.

Well put Pete, hopefully Slack will realize that he doesnt know as much as he thinks he does. When major league ballplayers, who happen to know more about baseball than anyone else could possibly know in their lifetimes, say that pitchers are not off limits, that says something.

BTW, to all Crack Committee members, and Mets fans in general, hope you like the 5th objective :).

Two quick comments:

A melee on the field might just wake up the bats of Mo Vaughn and Jeromy Burnitz and spark a turning point to the season, or it could turn out to be an embarrassment for the organization. Hey, it could be neither.

Like it or not, Yankees reliever Steve Karsay had perhaps the best read on the situation this week, when he commented that judging by the Mets' record, they should probably concentrate on winning a game than getting payback for events that took place two seasons ago.

I can see us beating up Pettite in his first start back and if we get up we can knock Clemens around and then Astacio on the hill Sunday.

And one more thing:

I can remember like it was yesterday, June 7th 1999. The Mets losers of eight in a row including the first two against the Yankees fell to two games below .500. The coaching staff outside of Bobby V was fired. The next day we beat the Yankees and turned the season around and made it to the NLCS.

If this team would get some fucking personality and have fun, then maybe history can repeat its self.

Yes i remember that too. This situation is actually very similiar to that one. Time for the right guys (Vaughn, Burnitz) to get their act together and turn it around like the Mets did in 99.

Here are a couple of more quotes for Mr. Slack.

Randy Johnson & Curt Schilling - you've heard of them, haven't you?
quote:

"If you're the pitcher and you're playing in the American League, then you may have a tendency to throw inside a little bit more knowing when that ninth hole comes up, you won't be hitting," Johnson says. "You're protected in that regard."

Johnson's teammate, Curt Schilling agrees.

"I believe guys in the American League pitch differently than guys in the National League," Schilling says. "Are you seriously going throw at somebody when you're facing Randy Johnson?"

So far its 4 current or former major leaguers who say pitchers can be hit.

and only John Slack who says they can't.

No dipshit, they know WHEN to retaliate. Here
is a better example. Clemens hit jeter. what
happened? yankees hit a blue jay. Brawl
ensues. The score is evened. THATS how its
played.

and to Peter Dragon-

I don't care who you quote the STATS DONT
LIE. PITCHERS DON'T GET THROWN AT.

If you want to quote schilling, try this one:

quote:

what did you think of the way Roger
Clemens beaned Mike Piazza a couple of
years back?

CS: As a pitcher, I loved it. It was awesome.
Roger just tried to knock him on his ass and
the ball got away from him. That's what guys
did in the 70s and 80s when Roger was
learning the game. You knocked guys on their
ass. Even Roger throwing the broken bat at
Mike in the World Series didn't bother me.
That was pure adrenaline. You've just
shattered the guy's bat, you've embarassed
him -- hitters don't like to be embarassed --
he's fired up, it's the World Series. Roger did
exactly what he should have done.

PD, if you are going to play cut-and-paste, how
about answering this one:

AND HOW MANY CAREER ABs DID
DRYSDALE AND GIBSON HAVE? Thats what I
fucking thought. They each hit hundreds of
guys and got plunked what? 5 times? 8
times? and who knows how many of them
were retalitory?

Dusty Baker is a chickenshit pussy who can't
manage in the postseason to save his life. I'd
like to see what HE would do if he was
managing against a one-man lineup like
bonds.

Just because those two fucking dolts express
their opinion, that doesn't make it fact.

THAT IS A FACT.

something that pitchers hide behind, here are
the stats for HBP for the years 1997-2001

THOSE ARE FACTS. not joe morgan that
dumb fuck. To show how fucking idiotic that
yankee hater is (he hates the yankees so bad
because they are better then his big red

begining of the season. "I really think the
mariners are the best team in the AL right

yankees have lost tino, paul, and scott and
really improved at all."
What a dumb fuck.

Wait, what? Are you kidding me?? How many chances have the Muts had to retaliate?? Estes will give Clemens a mosquito sized bump on his back and blah blah blah...
As has been said before, the Mets would have had the chance to retaliate had Clemens pitched his scheduled start last year. Unfortunately for all involved, Torre changed his rotation so that Clemens didn't pitch at Shea. The Mets decided not to retaliate against another player that DIDN'T attack Piazza twice. I think that shows pretty clearly who the real pussies are, and who is really showing some class. All they need to do is give him a little bump on the back - message sent. It's not about trying to maim or injure Clemens, it's about saying that this shit better not happen again.
quote:

how many fucking times does this have to be
said. NO FUCKING WAY are things "even" if
clemens gets hit. You think the yankees are
going to stand by and let the mets dispense
what their fans consider justice? fuck no. I
want clemens killed in a hail on gunfire. Is
jeter going to get out a uzi and take him out?
no. Who gives a shit what the fans want, its all
about doing things by the book.
As PeterDragon said, even the ex and current MLB players seem to agree that a retaliation against Clemens, not one of his teammates, is the right thing to do. I understand how this goes right over your head, as you're that retarded breed of Yankee fan whose knowledge of baseball is limited to calling the players, fans, managers, and anyone associated with the teams they dislike "fags" and "morons." Bill James only wishes he knew so much about the game.
quote:

they should probably concentrate on winning a game than getting payback for events that took place two seasons ago.
I think the media and fans are concentrating on this issue much more than the Mets are. All it is is one pitch in a nine inning game. In the grand scheme of things, it's practically irrelevant. It's just something that needs to be done.

it's tough to put things to rest."

Not to break up the love-fest here. But in the original post, you brought up two things:
"Robin Ventura" and
"if you go to fight Clemens he will kick the shit out of you"

That totally reminded me of when Robin Ventura charged Nolan Ryan and just got the living shit beat out of him. Head Lock, Uppercut, Uppercut, Uppercut. In my opinion, one of the greatest moments in baseball history.

Yahoo sucks. Just picture a baby flipping you off here.

That whole game made me want to puke. Everything that can go wrong did go wrong for the Mets today. Bullpen sucked, and the players that have sucked all year who are supposed to produce (Burnitz, Vaughn, Payton, Alomar) sucked. Damn these type of games are why im getting sick to my stomach with this team.

And of course, that scumbag, as FB put it, Robin Ventura hit that fucking homerun. It HAD to be him right? Damn at least now i only have to watch 1 of my teams suck ass instead of 3 of my teams at the same time. And now i get to hear that assclown JohnSlack gloat about his team. Bad night all around.

If not him, it would have just been someone else. The Mets were not scoring any more runs in this game. They had their one inning of "offense" if you can call it that - bases loaded, one out and get NO hits and 2 runs on a walk and passed ball. Yup, that's productive.

But hey, Philadelphia also lost so still got a 3 game lead on 4th place! Also Burnitz got hit in the head. So overall it wasn't that bad a night.

burnitz getting injured could be the best thing to happen to the mets this season.

anyway, how freakin retarded can valentine get?
Timo Perez is the best offensive met in the past week and Jay Payton is starting instead of him?

Meanwhile Piazza makes some horrible throws once again.... 4.3% base stealers caught...that is just plain pathetic.

The Burnitz injury probably isn't major; he's day to day. The best thing that can happen is it knocked some Milwaukee back into him and he starts actually (gasp!) producing.

Payton started today because Andy Pettitte did.

Yes, Piazza is pathetic when it comes to throwing out runners.

After last night's loss, i really could care less if Clemens gets beaned or not. It just doesnt matter to me anymore. What we need are WINS, lots of them. Last night was such a hard loss to swallow, hell, if that game was against the Milwaukee Brewers and the same stuff happened it would be the hardest loss of the season too.

Just gotta believe that the Mets can take these 2 games. We do have Astacio and Estes going, so we can do this. However, if we get any further behind the Braves, this season may be over by July.

How does 22-8 in the next 30 games sound to everyone?? Thats what im shooting for.

You want to know about stats. Stats can often be misleading when taken in a vacuum. That is why sometimes EXPERT testimony is taken.

You want another opinion? How about Here is a story by Steve Jacobson which includes quotes from Bob Gibson (from Today's newsday)
quote:

At the very least, Clemens should have been made to get up from the dirt and brush himself off. Today is the next chance. "Knocking guys down, not necessarily hitting them, was part of the game," Gibson said. "It's impossible to win without pitching inside. A guy leaning in shows no respect. If I happen to hit him, well tough! In 17 years, I hit two guys on the head and neither was on purpose. So I'd get knocked down and we'd keep on playing; we didn't make a big deal out of it."

With interleague play, the Mets had few chances at the Yankees. With the DH in the American League, Clemens doesn't have to stand in against retaliation. In his 18 seasons - including six Cy Young awards - Clemens has hit 132 batters and has gone to the plate 16 times in the regular season. Gibson in 17 seasons hit 102 batters and batted 1,482 times - and was hit eight times. "It hurt," he explained. "I expected it because I hit people.

Why only 8 times? I don't know, maybe he was a great athlete who got out of the way. But notice he says he expected it.

So far 5 major league ballplayers have said throwing at a pitcher is part of the game, and NO ONE HAS SAID IT IS AGAINST PROTOCOL.

By the way, Bob Gibson, second only to Drysdale in being feared for throwing inside, and he actually hit less people than Clemens in his career.
