Andrew WK Ugly Kid Joe gets heavier and stupider

Aerosmith Never liked them, and never will

Jimmy Buffet Makes me want to go to a beach, sip a drink, and then shoot myself

Led Zep So burnt out on them in high school, that I can barely listen to them anymore. What was a great hard bluesy sound became engorged in bombast, success and then over-extended itself album after album.

Kid Rock MTV engineered rock can suck my ass. This guy is a pre-packaged rockstar with little musical use to show for it. All fluff.

Limp Biskit See above

Yeah, I forgot about Limp Bizkit.

As far as Kid Rock, he's a better country singer than rock singer. This current tour, he is doing a shitload of country stuff. I'm not sure what the reaction to that is. HES A SOUTHERN HICK! People don't realize that. Sure he plays rock, but country is in his blood.
I don't think Limp Bizkit, Creed, or Linkin Park qualify in this category. A lot of people hate them.
I like to hear Linkin Park... but I can't watch them. They are the Backstreet Boys dressed up to be Hard Core.
Nah Sleeper, all three of those bands are huge. Just because people here don't like them doesn't mean alot of others dont.

We just all have better taste than most I guess.

Well, except for those Thursday fans. ;-)
Sleeper, they sell alot of albums, so alot of people apparently love them.
I'm gonna get killed for this but, Frank Zappa. Yes the guy is brilliant and I actually think his views on music and politics are right on but I think his music is horrible. Again, a great mind and a talented musician but I just can't get into his stuff.
Hmmmm....thinking about your statement Keyser, is that really true? Or are alot of these bands being pushed my the record companies/MTV/radio/etc..

When the new Disturbed came out, I dug the one song on it, and wanted to check them out, hoping that the rest of the album was like that. Nope, it SUCKED. Same for alot of other bands that got pretty big. They get overhyped and get played alot, so people are "tricked" into thinking they're good because they are played so often. That is why I hate listening to the radio. About 80% of the music I listen to wouldn't be played on the radio. And out of that 20%, another 10% they will only play 1 or so songs off their albums because they just aren't "commercially sellable". Even take a band like Radiohead. I love them, but they just don't play much of their stuff on the radio. How many singles did Amnesiac have? 2? How about Kid a? 2? 3? There's alot of other AMAZING music on those albums, however it's not "catchy" enough for radio play. I think radio/MTV sucks the big fat dick because they push bands that don't deserve to be pushed. They tell people that you only need 1 good song to make it in the music biz. Thats bullshit. Fuck that, and fuck them.
It depends how you define "making it". Some bands would consider it just being able to play the music they want to play. Others would consider selling millions of records "making it".

The term "everyone" is too general. Who is everyone? The mainstream? The people on this board? The people who bought their albums? Does buying their album constitute that you "love" the band? Maybe not.

I took it to mean bands that have sold lots of records because its easier to gauge than how many people "love" a band.

i can't believe adema is on the main stage at ozzfest. just last year they were a pre-opening band and they sucked. it just seems wrong when big festival shows have bands like them for the mainstage.
MTV is part of Viacom which owns Showtime, Paramount, CBS, Simon and Schuster, UPN, BET so needless to say its a media conglomerate that has uses one outlet to push another. They're gonna push whatever band is most profitable to their company.

Heres something interesting I found about MTV...

"In December 1999, the Justice Department announced it was investigating MTV for alleged antitrust violations. The government is examining MTV's business practices, including the company's requirement that music companies give MTV, M2, and VH1 exclusive rights to music videos. Investigators are also looking into Viacom's acquisition of a competitor, the Box, in 1999, which Viacom had to agree to operate as a separate unit and not close it down until further notice from the Justice Department. "

I think about that when I see 'older' guys in a band. Like 40's or 50's. They are pretty much passed the age when anyone would pick them up & sign them, right? But they just love the music so much they play little bars, or restaurants, it's cool. It's about the enjoyment. I feel and warm & fuzzy, and slightly depressed at the same time. I wonder what happened that they never "made it." No manager, no recordings, wrong time, wrong place, etc?

Maybe they didn't want to "make it". Maybe they just love playing music, and just have tons of fun. DO NOT! for a second believe that once you make it in a band that life is easy. In fact, touring fucking sucks, and so does the studio time. When you have a deadline to make an album, you get pressure from everywhere to be creative. Theres alot of pressures in being a big band. Now of course theres so many good things that go along with it, which is why so many people want to be rock starrs. But, the life isn't all THAT easy. Why do you think so many bands break up?
I've never really liked the Rolling Stones or Kiss. I also never really liked Faith Hill or Shania Twain...I know most people on here don't listen to that, but they were very popular.

No, of couse not. Some people aren't cut out for touring, for example. I'm bad at the actual traveling & other peoples' schedules, so I'd be a pain in the ass.

I guess I was just saying I like to daydream about their lives. How close did they get, that kind of stuff.

My friend has played for most of his life, first drums (10+ yrs) now guitar, and he loves it, the music, touring, just playing.... but he also wants any band he's in to be productive. Stuff beyond just getting a show, ... get paid, tour, record, get noticed.... so maybe that's just my span of reference.
I dont like KISS
I dont like Creed
I dont like Aerosmith
There's this other new band that people are into, Project Pseudo, I personally think they stink.

But you could check them out for yourself Saturday night at Stevie G's in Union Beach, NJ. 732-739-9299.

What?.....he wasn't here to plug them, so I had to do it.
personally, i do like Project Menudo, though :loveya:
