The only rule is that these had to've had some airplay either on the radio or on a video channel. It's more fun if there's a good possibility others here have heard them. Some of my "favorites":
Billy Ocean - Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrkKwjCnIpY
Gotta love songs that suggest abduction. People actually liked this song. Music, and people, in the 80's were completely effed up. This will be a common theme.

Firehouse - Don't Treat Me Bad
 http://youtube.com/watch?v=YR8OwyQMguk
Somewhere along the line, it was determined that this type of "music" was on the same par as Metallica and Slayer. The video for this song was actually shown on Headbanger's Ball. This whiny, high-pitched full frontal assault upon the ears was actually considered "heavy metal". Listen to this guy whine about how he won't cry anymore. Are you effing serious?

Slaughter - Up All Night
 http://youtube.com/watch?v=0JJXy2pKy7A
Same as above. Mark Slaughter looooved to climb the scales, as if he believed the higher the falsetto, the harder he rocked. I seriously wanted this guy to accidentally fall into a vat of acid.

Calloway - I Wanna Be Rich
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s99ycqEvGc
The first time I heard this flaming pile of moose shit, I dubbed it the worst song ever. All these years later, and I think it's still holding up that honor. Not one instrument on the entire song, and the video shows one of the band members lifting weights for no apparent reason. I hate this song with every fiber of my being.

Most of today's hip hop totally blows.
Soulja Boy - Crank That
 http://youtube.com/watch?v=LpocrqvP2Yg
Lil Wayne - Lollipop
 http://youtube.com/watch?v=JIG1Vr0h_aE
There are more, but you get the point. Don't these guys have anything semi-intelligent to say?

The worst song ever is so bad that it's been retired from the lists. I give you Macarthur Park. Number 2 on the charts in 1968; Donna Summer's disco remake hit #1 in 1978. If you want to know what made it so bad, besides the overwrought singing and instrumentation, check out these lyrics:

a lot of songs that sound great have stupid lyrics (for example, every one of kid rock's hits)... but that stupid friggin' soulja boy line dance is the most irritating thing to watch since the macarena.

I don't think any smiley is necessary to indicate that level of sarcasm.

Ice Ice Baby is actually a pretty catchy song. I liked it when it came out.

Probably because he had enough musical taste enough to rip off Queen and Bowie, like plunger said. Under Pressure is an outstanding song. Really, that's the only appealing part of Ice Ice Baby - the rest of it is garbage.
