Interning for FB&HW
#1
It's a lengthy process:

First you've got to travel to all of the markets the show is heard in and be a butler for a listener for an indefinite amount of time. I would recommend starting the list of markets alphabetically, just to make it easier.

Second, you need to surrender any pornography you may have collected. The first listener you butler for will usually accept your stash for recycling.

Third, email Joe.

All of these are true statements. However if I were you I would start with e-mailing Joe first. If you want to do it 1-3, however, you can start at my house. ;D
Well, I guess that we all learned a lesson today. That it's what's inside a person that counts. And that on the inside, midgets are thieving little bastards.

You can skip Mr. Gabunchy's #s 1 and 2. Just go straight to #3.
Hey doc, do you know the address of that place?
Oh, you know, I do know the address. It's at the corner of go fuck yourself and buy a map!

yeah, email Joe and offer a blumpkin.

also, don't limit yourself to just FBHW if this is something you really want to get into. the station/company itself has interns and there's 2 other stations in GR that are also great opportunities.

Absolutely, although I am hung up a bit on the pornography thing - obviously magazines can be recycled, but what about videotapes? It would be such a waste for such hot commodities to be wiped clean.

Well, the reason why I narrowed my focus so specifically is because I was an avid listener for four years, and then now I'm relocated back to the Eastside of the state, where the radio stations have horrible morning shows. FB&HW was just easy to relate and listen to and their collective identity, I guess you'd call it, is one that I can relate to as well. The morning shows over on this side of the state aren't very good, which probably explains why this show is nationally syndicated, but it's just something that's been in the back of my mind for awhile now, that's all.

Who said the DVD's wouldn't be used too?

If you want to teach you need to leave Michigan, no questions about it. My wife is an elementary teacher and there was nothing there so we moved to Phoenix. She had multiple job offers just off of phone interviews and was able to pick the school she wanted when we came out for my job interviews.

The only downside is you pretty much have to podcast FBHW. If you want to listen on the internet, they are off the air by 7-8 AM local time.

I don't know how bad the job market for teachers is in Michigan, but I have a hard time imagining that it's any worse than finding a radio job. Everyone's slashing their advertising budgets, which means radio is hurting badly. I know of a station which had to drop three of their best on-air employees, and presssure one or two more into retirement simply because they couldn't afford to keep them. Now, there's a bunch of nearly minimum-wage part-timers keeping the station going.

I don't want to stomp on your dreams, but I definitely think you should know what you're getting into. You might be part-time for 3 years or more waiting for someone to retire or move on so that you can get a new position, if his/her position will even be re-filled. Then again, there are stories of people who are at the right place at the right time and it works out for them, but most people have to pay their dues and it can be bad for a while.

Again, this isn't to discourage you. If you're up to the challenge, then charge in there head-first!
