I have a friend who is pretty centrist but has leaned Republican in the past. His kids' teacher was telling the class one day that they shouldn't be Republicans because Republicans hate poor people. Needless to say he was pissed.

Why would a teacher feel the need to influence the political leanings of children, who barely have the capability of understanding the issues, and can't even vote anyway? What does it matter if a kid supports John McCain?

If this were any other profession she probably would have been fired, or at least reprimanded for her behavior, but thanks to teachers union bureauocracy, we have to put up with this crap.
