Quote:One protester told the BBC he had been greatly angered by the actions of the police.

"It's not the first time. They always kill people - immigrants, innocent people - and without any excuse," he said. "They murdered him in cold blood."

The unrest, the worst in several years, has spread throughout the country

"I think [the violence] is justified. Peaceful demonstrations cannot get a solution to the problem."

Quote:A similar shooting incident in 1985 led to a lengthy vendetta between the youths and police, with violence continuing for years.
so wait, 1 other shooting over 20 years ago plus this one justifies 20 years worth of rioting, vandalism and injury? even with the officers in question being arrested and investigated?
if that really is all there is to it, i think it's a bunch of stupid kids that perpetuate their own frenzy.

I highly doubt that they are simply rioting about the kid getting shot. From what the articles say, and some of the greek posters on the "boston" link say, that this was just the spark to ignite the riot. They also claim that the corruption in the government there actually send people to start fires and rile people up, so that the rioters look bad and make other citizens vote for more corrupt government control. They also said that not terribly long ago at a "peaceful" protest, 7 cops beat a guy near to death, unprovoked according to witnesses, but they never went to jail, never got charged, and even got raises and promotions. I'm sure there are people that just burn things and destroy property, just because, but for that many people to be upset, there has to be a bigger picture than just a kid getting killed.
